Looking for an ankle holster for a J frame; either a bodyguard or centennial - 5.11 pants.

Links, pics, descriptions and reasons why you suggest a particular set up please.

This will be my New York reload.

Several options with the Galco Holster at this Link. Both open top and retention strap models available. I heartily recommend the calf strap accessory.

Works fine with the 5.11 pants. Comfortable for all day wear and a J-frame is secure.

Galco makes a good rig...so does Alessi, Null, Bullman and Del Fatti...but I use a Renegade Cozy Partner...at 50 bucks it's hard to beat...mine is going on 9 years and has plenty of life left in it....the strap is for retention, you only have to pull on the grip to release it...it has nice sheepskin padding and the wide band is very comfortable... you can pay well over a hundred bucks more for a custom molded job, but molded rigs are harder to conceal...this soft pouch even fits under straight leg jeans...

Don't have 5.11 pants. I do have and carry most everyday my 340M&P in a open top Galco ankle glove. Never tried the Renegade, so I can't comment there. Bought my Galco from a local shop when I started LEO (1991) and still use it almost everyday.
Secure, comfortable, and I barely notice I have it on. Never used the calf strap, but only have had light weight's (642 and 340) in it.

Plus one on the Galco Ankle Glove.
I've been carrying my 340PD in one for five years or more, jeans, 511's, Dockers, whatever.
I've only carried the scandium's so I never used the calf strap.

Another vote here for Renegade. Use one daily for my Model 49 and couldn't be happier with it.

Another vote for the Galco ankle glove. I've used one for a Glock 27 and S&W 642 for years. Secure, stable and comfortable.

Nice. So you're saying you just need to pull up on the j-frame to release that retention strap and snap, you don't have to flick it open / off with your thumb?

ok..., if I'm right it looks like the strap and snap never come apart - the strap just slides off the trigger guard?.

btw, I Love the new forum look / format!

You are correct...you just pull the gun and the strap slides off...to be honest, not sure how much you even need the strap since once you wrap the elastic, the gun is pretty snug...but a little added security can't hurt...

Thanks. Looks like the price hasn't changed much.

Got my Renegade today from ADCO - that was fast shipping. So far I like it. Going to start wearing her tomorrow with a 642 no-lock.

WOW, how did I miss this thread. I have been using the same Renegade ankle holster for my j-frames since 1999. Other than some worn edges it is still in as good a shape today as it was in 1999. I have carried my air-weight j-frame in mine for as much as 20 hours in a day and all but forgot that it was there. You absolutely CAN'T go wrong with a Renegade. I love mine so much that I bought a replacement just in case by some freak of nature I am able to wear mine out so I don't have to wait for another one to be made. And trust me when I tell you that I have tried almost every ankle holster maker out there (other than Alessi) and the Renegade by far is the most comfortable. I have worn my over 9" duty boots and in dress shoes and its just as comfortable in either environment.

15 hours straight today - very comfortable and it just settled in.

question on printing..., is it a given that a trained eye will spot an ankle holster under a fairly loose pant leg?

I tried to look but to me it seems someone who knew what to look for could / would spot it.

Buy something cheap that way you won't be out very much money when you get tired of that thing on your ankle in a couple of days and you throw it in the closet with all those other holsters that seemed like such a good idea at the time.

Don't sweat it...no one is looking at your ankles...the only time you might give yourself away is sitting down and your pants leg rises up...but the bottom of the holster just looks like an ankle brace...and if anyone asks, that's what it is...
