I"m in need of a OWB holster for my 686+.What i have a question about is,do the snaps conceal as well as slots in a pancake holster,how hard are the snapped holsters to undo and could you remove while seated in a pickup? Thanks

Slots may hold your gun a tiny bit closer to your body, but not much.

You can "put on and take off" a snap holster with one hand if need be. You could easily remove it seated in your pickup.

Putting it back on would be more difficult but not impossible.

You sure can't do it easily with a slot holster.

That said, I use both versions.. Simply Rugged slots, 5 Shot and Mitch Rosen Snaps.

You would think a slotted rig would hold closer than a snap but it depends on the holster...my Alessi CQC/S (s for snap) holds my gun as close as any of my slotted rigs....but that's because the snap wings are curved inward and pull the holster tight to the body.

I have snaps and I like them better for quick disarm and you can hang your keys from the snap giving a better diguise to them

Don't like holsters with snaps based on this one situation.

First duty weapon was a Model 10, and the duty holster was snapped onto (over) the duty belt with three snaps on the inboard side (against your body.) Ostensibly the snaps were failsafe due to the pressure of your body against the snaps/belt.

However, I engaged in a tussle with a bad guy one afternoon alongside a highway and after successfully taking him into custody I proceeded to the station for processing. Upon arrival the desk sergeant asked: "Hey, where's your gun?" Oops!

Raced back to scene and found the holster and gun in the grass where we had fought. Soon after we switched to a fully sewn holster that fit the duty belt very snugly.

I have been making pancake style holsters since 1972. The snap-loop belt attachment is, in my opinion, about the best modification ever thought up for this design (no, I didn't invent it, but I sure like it).

On the subject, one of the keys to comfort and consistent positioning of the holster is to be sure that the belt attachments (slots or loops) are fitted to the belt being used. Otherwise the holster can slide and tilt, and we want it to stay firmly anchored in place, always at exactly the same angle and position.
