I've had a couple, one loaned for a while and returned, bought another and it was stolen out of my trunk. I never thought these were for anything except ear injections. Close is better!

I read VERY recently that the wallet holsters are no longer a no-no. For a number of years they were sold as novelty items only. Now they are everywhere.

I too had one in.22 mag. I actually had a piece of leather sewn into the upper cuff of a pair of cowboy boots for it.

I have the same one in .22 magnum and at 10 yds it shoots to point of aim. A cool little gun.

Carried one in .22 MAG as an unauthorized BUG in the early '80's. Carried in a flat wallet/pocket holster and like many, found that with grips removed it was even flatter. Blued finish is mostly gone.

Later relegated it to tacklebox duty and using shotshells dispatched many snakes quite handily with it.

I bought one of these when they first came out in .22 magnum. I don't know if it was the gun or the ammo but I had frequent failure to fire issues. Which left me with only one shot.

At about 10 feet it would keyhole the paper target frequently. I think that in the keyhole position a good motorcycle jacket will stop or significantly slow a 22 magnum.

I kept is for about 6 months; I kept the pistol smith at the store busy for those 6 months too. He finally declared it an ammo problem and not a gun problem.

I don't know. I do know that rim fire ammo is not as reliable as center fire ammo. And with the alternative choices now I would not get one of these.

Apparently they are timeless or related to Cicadas!

Got a .22 LR NIB. Got a .22 Magnum a long way from NIB. Loose, no finish, and shoots great. Kinda like me..Not too good looking but works REAL good.

Old thread!! I have three (one in long rifle, two in magnum). Never had a problem with any of them.

Carried this one on rare occasions while in the NYPD. Holster is an old Seventrees.

I wonder about the motorcycle jacket part. .22 Magnum even from a short barreled handgun such as the NAA mini revolvers is capable of penetrating several layers of leather. Don't know if the keyhole would make any difference.

I've chronographed my D-101. Velocity is around 1,000 fps. You gain around 75 or so fps from the long rifle version.

I've found the Hornady 'Critical Defense' 45gr .22Mag loads will keyhole at 9-10 feet in both H-S Derringers and the NAA revolvers. From my experience, the original 40gr CCI and W-W loads are best in these guns.

With my recent, seemingly endless, series of abdominal surgeries, I've had to forego IWB carry for pocket carry. Often, that gun will be a H-S Derringer. I prefer it to the NAA for the bigger grip and DAO action.

A buddy of mine , carried a 22 magnum in his boot top while working as an officer in our police department.
I sure wish I had bought one back then, they were the slimmest and most compact derringer ever made and in 22 magnum carried a decent punch . As always...a day late and a dollar shot on deals.

I've never owned one of the High Standard Derringers but I had a chrome plated Rohm O/U .22LR which really wasn't bad and currently have a Davis .22LR which may have the heaviest trigger of any firearm I have ever fired, ever.


I also have this NAA Mini in .22LR. It actually isn't a bad shooter I just have a heck of a time holding on to it.

I also find the little NAA mini-revolver handy for a backup or as a "get off of me" resource. There is a solution for it being hard to grip. NAA offers a plastic device that encloses the gun when carrying, but flips open to form a larger grip when employed. Here are a couple of pics.

One of these was my "Onion Field Gun". I didn't carry it to effect arrests or finish a gunfight, but to fulfill my promise to my wife to return at the end of my watch. That's also why I carried concealed handcuff keys and a very flat folding knife in the bottom of my sap pocket.

I have one in 22 mag that was given to me by my father-in-law. I've only fired it a couple of times and it does provide an impressive blast.

I have the Ivory grips for it but with them off it pockets very nicely.

Funny pic of the gun on the scale. I also have one in .22 mag that used to be my constant companion in snake season. Recently I bought a 340PD that is now my constant companion. My how times have changed. Your 2-shot derringer shows 10.4 OZ on the scale (less grips). My 7-shot 340PD weighs 10.7 OZ.

Good points! Yet the derringer IMO has not lost its reason for being. I also have some AirLite 10oz revolvers, yet many jacket pockets are too shallow to hold their appr. 6" length. A derringer fits in these pockets nicely.

Wanted one since I was a kid. Drooled over them when I saw them in pics or other peoples collections. Bought one bout four months ago. Kept missfiring on top barrel. Paid $400 from my favorite gun shop. Told him the problem put it back on consignment and lost 80 bucks on the deal. Considered an $80 rental fee and I never look back!

My Dad had one briefly in .22 mag......Took fingers on BOTH hands to pull the trigger.......You might be able to hit a car....IF you were on the inside with the windows rolled up....

Carried mine since the 70's, 22 mag, still carry it sometimes, one of the best designed derringers in my opinion.

Had one of the 22 magnums. Used it when walking up to a stopped car,
right under a clipboard. Later, gave it to my mother in law who lived on out on a highway in Oklahoma. After my father in law died and she was alone on a trip down I showed her how to use it and gave it to her.
One night she looked out from her bedroom and saw a guy messing with one of the tractors in the side yard. She fired two shots at him and he shouted, "Don't shoot anymore lady!" A trooper was driving by at that time, heard the shots, drove in and arrested the guy! You can bet the nearby small town passed around the word! Don't mess with that lady.
He was trying to steal the battery from the tractor.
I had it loaded with magnums when I gave it to her.
