I've been looking for a sling for my Marlin .22 lever rifle, a leather sling with the Marlin logo. I have seen them on other folks rifles, and figured I must have one! So, I started stalking them on E-bay, but the bidding always seemed to go too high for me, ending over $30, plus shipping makes for an expensive sling...

Here's a link to the last one I bid on, it ended at $57.88! I dropped out after $22.

Marlin adjustable leather sling - eBay (item 260513042241 end time Dec-02-09 12:30:02 PST)

Then I got an idea, see if Marlin still sells them! I called them yesterday, they do indeed make and sell the exact same leather sling with Marlin logo, price $15, "I'll take one, please!"

Ebay is a convenient place to find neat accessories, but is easy to over pay. I did get a good deal on four French military leather slings for $15, slung up all my .22 rifles that needed slings.

Thanks. I need a sling for the 39A and that looks as good as any I guess.

Just wanted to let those who are interested that I got my Marlin sling in the mail the other day, I think it took three days to get it once I ordered it. It is very nice, oiled tan color leather with the Marlin logo. Looks great on my Model 39 .22! It is well worth the $15 price.

If you want one, go to the Marlin website and call their 800 number customer service line, they'll take your order over the phone. Heck, order three or four of them, Ebay the extras and buy yourself something else nice!

Years ago, I sold a fair pile of 15 round M1 carbine mags on eBay for $15 - $20 apiece. At that time, the very first hit on a Google search for "M1 Carbine Magazine" was Fulton Armory that had new in wrap carbine magazines for $6 each.

It's hard to believe that someone can manage to create an eBay account without mastering the Google search, but there you have it...

Keep at it. The way it works is the people who have these see the high bid so put theirs up but the idiot who paid the high price has satisfied his pea brain with the one he bought and you can swoop in there and buy one reasonable much to the chagrin of the owners hoping to take advantage of a windfall.

It works the same way on guns.

Rarely does anyone find "a deal" on an auction site...but occasionally one can luck out...but it certainly isn't often!

I've done better at gunshows lately...and that is terribly unusual!

There is an auction at gunbroker I've been watching on an item...and it has gone way over what any reasonable person that is familiar in any way with the item in question would want to pay.

I guess, some folks just spend more money on themselves around the holidays. I need to put some stuff up for auction!

More picture tests with my new camera....

Here's a picture of the Marlin sling on my Model 39A:

By the way, if you do an E-bay search today "Marlin Rifle Sling" you'll now find two of them, starting bid $20, described as "New, old stock, extremely hard to find"....

I bought one of those about 10 years ago from Marlin's website. It was listed on their site.

For some reason, they took it off. I started looking on Ebay and I was shocked at how much they went for. I thought, "Gee, I should have bought ten of them when I had the chance."

So apparently Marlin still has them or makes them, but they're not on their website.

I wouldn't say anyone buying on Ebay is stupid. If the sling isn't on Marlin's website, how in the world would you know or think to call them and ask if they have a product for sale that they don't advertise?

Good to know they're still available. Buy one for $15 and sell it for $57! Somebody's making money in this economy!

I generally order them from Marlin in lots of 6. They are very well made and hold up very well. About $15.00 each. Maybe I should list some?
