What are all the options for a .38special/.357 magnum rifle.

I was considering a lever action or even a Thompson Contender single shot for plinking essentially.

I hope to start reloading at some point and don't really ever hunt, though I could see my brother using it.

Mostly for fun and enjoyment.

Winchester has a new 92 but it is exspendsive. Rossi/puma and marlin are your almost only options. I think uberti builds some under many other names like cimmeron etc. Also there are a few pumps out there patterned after the old colt lighting. Sounds like they are exspendsive and less dependable. I think I would buy a puma and have steve young aka nate kiowa jones go over it. He is the guru for puma 92s, slicking them up.

If you don't mind a single shot, H&R makes a .357 version of their Handi Rifle.

I like simplicity... the H+R might fit the bill in price, maitainence, and use.

I assume it will take .38 special?

The one I have does well with 125gr Remington HP's. I put a Nikon 3x9 on it that cost more than the rifle but at least I can see to shoot it.

How about a Uberti Baby roling block? 4 1/2 lbs of fun; shoots .357 and .38 specials.

Good luck trying to find a Marlin. I have trying to get one for what seems like a year now. They either do not make many of them or they get snapped up as soon as they show up.

Lots of Rossi's around and the stainless version is a nice looking rifle for a good price.

I love my EMF model 1892 saddle ring carbine in .38/.357 magnum. Very smooth action and plenty accurate as attested by the two whitetails I've taken with it.

Just thought I would show this 92 in 44 wcf I once owned. I belive it was built in 1902. It came off a reservation in the dakotas.
It along with many others were stolen from me. I had another in a octongon barreled rifle. It was a shot out 25-20. I had it converted to .357 mag and totaly rebuilt. I sold that one and wish I hadnt!
I also once had a winchester 73 that I had converted to .38 special about 40 years ago.

How could you not buy a Marlin 1894C?

There's a boat load of them on Gunbroker. Break out the plastic and don't look back.

Look at Ozark Guns, they have some Marlin 1894c in stock at a very reasonable price.

They do sell quickly

I'm currently saving up for a Cimarron 1873 short rifle in .38/357.

I found my holy grail rifle last year a Marlin pre-cross bolt 1894c 357. Works great and shot a doe last hunting season.

I have a nice Rossi 92SRC .38spc/.357mag lever action
that I purchased in the 1980's to match-up with my S&W 586L-Frames.

I have an uncommon combo. A Savage 24v - 357 mag over a 20 gauge.

Don't see these very often, and don't know shy. It is a neat combination.

I saw one of those for $450 plus at the gunshow in Raleigh a couple months ago, first I had ever seen. I would have gotten it if it was .357 over 12 guage, but I don't want to start buying any 20 gauge since I have a boatload of 12. That's a great gun!
