Savage Stevens Model 200 $180!!
I was looking in the Academy sale paper and saw they had a Savage Stevens Model 200 in either .270 or 7mm-08 for $179.99! I'm going to be doing a little deer hunting this year and was planning on just borrowing a friends rifle. After seeing this ad I might just go buy this rifle. What ya'll think?

That looks like a smokin' deal to me. I'll be interested to see what others say about the rifle. I know nothing about it, but I've been looking at similar rifles. Thanks for the heads up.

its nothing special but for 180 as long as it goes bang when you pull the trigger it will work for me.

All the Savages I've seen were good shooters.

MSRP is $404.00, If it shoots as good as the 110 Series this is a steal.

I had one in 7mm/08 that had a ancient Weaver V1.5x-4.5x scope. Off a bench, it would shoot a golfball size group with Federal premium ammo. It probably would of done better with more scope power. I let a neighborhood kid with a tight budget buy it.

I bought one in .22-250 with the fullest intentions of having it rebarreled to .22-250 AI. Even with the ****** factory trigger and skinny barrel this thing shot groups that were scary small using a cheap-o wal-mart scope. Needless to say, I left the factory barrel on it. Until this one starts opening up I'll keep shooting it as stock. For $180 you're going to have an amazing deer rifle. Only two things I'll recommend is spend some of the money you've saved on a good scope and buy a rifle basix trigger kit for it. You'll have a deer rifle that you're friends would sell their first born child for after that

Sweet gun at a crazy good price.
My brother-in-law has one in 300 Win Mag. We sighted it in with some Fusion 150gr and 180gr loads. It shot 3 shot cloverleaf groups on the day I shot it. It's a very nice gun.

I have a savage in 243 and 30-06. The 30-06 has never left a deer standing. I wish I could say the same for the 243, however it was user error and not a reliabitlity or accuracy issue with the rifle.

I sighted in a 243 model for a friend, and it consistently cloverleafed 3 rounds at 100 yards with Federal 100 gr. Darn good price.

Savage has a new low price rifle. They may be closing out the Stevens Rifle Line.
Geoff
Who has seen two good examples that shot very small groups at 200 yards.

Well, I went and picked one up today. Apparently the ad was just supposed to be for Texas, but since I was able to access it in Oklahoma, they were kind enough to give me the price in the ad. I had to ask three different people, but I saved $70. Feels like a nice little rifle, but it could use some work on the trigger. I might get to that after I shoot it a little. Anyone got a suggestion for a good 200 yard scope, hopefully for less than I gave for the rifle?

Get the RifleBasix savage 110 trigger kit. It's about $80 and if you can use a screw driver you can have it installed and be safety testing it in under an hour. I personally like leupolds products, but you're not going to find one for less than what you gave for the gun. I would stick to something in the 3-9x40 range. Hard to improve on that set up.

Glad to hear you were able to pick up the rifle for the advertised price. They pulled the advertisement from the internet since I started this tread. A co-worker of mine picked one up yesterday as well. He said they weren't to thrilled about giving it to him for that price but they did.

I read in one of the gun rags that was reviewing the new edge line that they weren't going to discontinue the stevens line since wildcatters had taken such a strong fancy to it as a weapon.
