When David rebuilt it, I had him replace the UD with the Bomar rib. I don't shoot it as well as when it had the dot, but it makes up for it with "old skul kewl" IMO. That heavy steel rib really tames recoil during rapid fire strings.

I've got a Giles .38 Special M1911 to go with it. It came with Giles' own iron sights and rib, but now it's got a Weaver rail and the same 1" Ultradot as the Series 70. It's the most accurate centerfire semi-auto I've ever owned.

I just have to go with what I know, and that's my Colt 70 series Government Model in bright nickel. (with throated barrel)

I have had many, many .45 acp pistols over the last 40 or so years. The first one is a Colt 1905 Model that my uncle gave me. His oldest brother gave it to when after winning it in a poker game in Texas. He never had any kids so he passed it on to me a few years ago. I have fired it a couple of times with light handloads but it is retired to the safe now.

My first 1911 was a Series 70 Combat Commander with satin nickel finish. It wouldn't reliably feed anything but ball but ball was pretty much all anybody used back then. I wound up selling it for denstist money. I have also had several 625's and a 325PD and a 1917 S&W. I also had a Ruger Blackhawk Convertable .45 Colt/.45 acp.

These days, I have several .45's. The one I shoot the best is a plain jane Sig 220 W. German pistol. That surprises me. I have a Colt series 80 Govt Mdl and a Kimber Raptor and an XD-45 Compact. Surprisingly, one of the best shooting .45's I have ever had is a cheap Bersa. I am not sure what the model is without looking at it but its light, very compact and accurate. It has never had a stoppage. That's remarkable since I have used it to get rid of old garbage reloads that I didn't want to use in my "better" pistols.

I have three M1911A1s. My wad gun is a Les Baer set up for a slide-mounted Ultra Dot. Skeptical as I was when I bought it, this one really will shoot an 1.5" group at 50 yards, using the right load. I'm just not good enough to do that...

My seond is my hardball gun which was built for me by an USMC WTB armorer on an Essex frame and a Colt slide. Extremely accurate and is my backup for bullseye.

My third is a pre-70 Colt National Match. Kept it stock and shoots really well using 3.6 grains of Bullseye and a H&G 68. Easily holds the 10 ring for me at 25 yards off a sand bag.

Waht I'd like to get next is a pre-70s Government model.

I am a fan of polymer handguns and love my .40 Glocks and XD's, but I have not been able to find love for any polymer guns in .45 ACP. Was issued a H&K USP in .45 ACP for a while and hated it.

In .45 ACP, it's hard to beat a 1911, so in that caliber I'll have to stick with my Springfield Fully Loaded.

I was in a local shop this weekend and saw one of the fancy Sigs that had an Officer's length grip with a Commander length slide. It really felt nice and handy.

My 1911 is not very exciting, just an old Ithaca 1911A. But we've been together for around 30 years and I don't see any reason to trade her off now. That's 4 years longer than my wife an I have been together.

Tough question, in the holster every day for the last 8 years is an older series 70 Colt Combat Commander. Before that it was the 1913 vintage GI issue Colt. When I was serious about Bullseye I found a nicely tuned National Match. My Officer's ACP is uncannily accurate but I found I like carrying the Commander better.

My best friend has a Brazilian Navy contract 1937 Smith which looks like it spent its life in the bilge of a submarine, but shoots like a house afire. It would rate right high on my favorites list, but I have been unable to convince him to sell it to me.

I carried a customized Series 70 Gold Cup for several years then drifted away from the 1911 guns and got into the Glocks. Still have a G30 that I won in a match and believe that it is the best of the Glock .45 series.

I recently traded a G21 in on this Kimber Super Carry Pro and am back in love with the 1911. Just under 1K rounds through it now and running like a clock. Excellent workmanship and ergonomics. I have to say that, for me, it is the best fitting concealed carry gun I have ever had.

This is pretty easy for me as well. My recently acquired CS45 is the only auto that I've liked enough to buy. It hasn't caused me to change my opinion since I got it .... except that I like it more now.
I have to admit that I really liked a friends Kimber when I shot it. As soon as I can find one that I can afford ... oh well.

My favourite is my Nighthawk GRP -- there's no question it's by far the best firearm I've ever owned (and I've owned a bunch). It has an amazingly crisp, light trigger pull, superior workmanship inside and out (it's tightly fitted for sure but amazingly easy to disassemble and reassemble), fantastic accuracy (I've shot it from 7m to 100m, and at 100m I hit a 4" balloon, standing, on my first shot) and the "feel" of the pistol with checkering on the frontstrap and MSH combined with the VZ grips is perfection.

I have about 15 1911's (Colt, Kimber, Sig, Les Baer) which are mostly Colts and a couple of Sig-Sauer P220's but by far the best shooting 1911 that I own is a Les Baer Thunder Ranch Special (TRS) .45 ACP. It is the best shooting 1911 I have ever shot and with no FTF or FTF's at all. It runs like a "sewing machine", It has really spoiled me.....

Four Colts in various configurations over the years...one marked US Navy and owned by a Hellcat pilot in WWII. Now down to three Kimbers, an all-weather one which is usually carried tucked in a tight belt with a Grip Clip. The other two go in a Bianchi shoulder rig in cooler weather. Love them all!

Depending on which way the wind is blowing, it's one of these...

...although, like Joni, I'm awfully fond on my Baer Premier II.

I'm guessing it's my favorite .45 - only one I have.
S/N puts it at around 1968.

I have several 1911s, but four of them are Pre War Colts. Two of them my dad bought with his first pay checks on his first job as a chemist with Danube Oil Company after he graduated from college in 1936. Two of them I bought at a GO-rage Sale that my wife wanted me to go to with her. I paid the lady exactly what she wanted for the two of them as she told me I wasn't got to rob her. She said she knew exactly what her husband had paid for them before the war.

Had a Kimber Custom CDP II that didn't like my reloads - chamber was too tight - so I sold it and got this.

Dan Wesson CBOB

This is the finest 1911 I have ever fired. Sure, there's other, better pistols, but this one is mine.

Look at the fit!

I also have a West German Sig P220 I bought new in 1987. I like the Sig too.

Sorry, I've been away from the 'pute for a couple of days, but it looks like y'all carried on just fine without me.

Some mighty fine looking pistols, thanks for sharing!

This is my favorite, a RIA .45 in satin nickel. Runs perfectly so far, great slide to frame fit, it was cheap and so am I, and most of all, I think it's pretty !!! Shoo

I am one of the weird people that does not like 1911s; I have tried over the years, but always end up trading them back on something else.
I have owned two Kimbers, two Paras and a Taurus

To be honest, the Taurus shot the best, had the smoothest cycling and had the most features for hundreds less than the competition.
