I have been made caretaker by a friend of my mother's. His father had these guns on a farm but was worried about something happening to them so I have been given them to take care of. I have been given permission to use them and since this man has no family I also might be inheriting them but I will take care of them now as if they were my own. I have already cleaned them and given one a refinish with the owner's permission. One is this very nice Remington Model 12A which needed a thorough cleaning to get all the decades old gunk out of the action. Today I decided to take the gun out and give it a range test. Shooting the little pump was tricky with only one good arm, but I found I can cycle the action ok if I switch hands and brace the buttplate on my knee. (It's nice to have my own range!) I took out some more of my 10 year old plus Remington 36 grain hollowpoints. The little pump shoots very well with the old Lyman peep sight and very tiny front bead. I can say that I would not have any issues taking this gun out to use on grey squirrels in the fall. I am hoping the weather holds up because the other .22 rifle I am caretaking for is a genuine pre-64 Winchester Model 52B Sporter that is all original and near mint! Hope for sunny weather!
