Default Sig Sauer 210 is re-intro'd - Would it work for S&W 3rd Gen?

I was checking something out about a different Sig P2nn model and noted huh/what!?! the SIg web site lists the 210

Products & Services

The SIG SAUER® P210®, the timeless pistol of the Swiss Army, is once again in production by SIG SAUER GmbH in Germany. This historic gun features the same precision and reliability as its ancestors, but also offers a number of modern improvements.

The carbon steel slide, machined from solid billet steel, now features a durable Nitron® coating, and the improved beavertail adorns the Nitron coated, heavy-style, carbon steel frame. The P210 Legend also offers an improved manual safety, internal drop safety, side magazine release, and custom wood grips. The return of the SIG SAUER P210 Legend will now ensure that many more shooters will be able to enjoy one of the world’s most accurate and legendary firearms.

Spec. page lists mag capacity as 10, 15 or 20 rds

Wasn't the original 210 a nsingle stack? the 15 and 20 rd
mags must stick out the bottom of the gun.

but don't get too excited
Sig P210-6 Legend $ 2,199
SIg P210-6 Legend TGT $ 2,399 w/adj.rear sight.

On the bright side for current owners of the old 210s
they at least have a source for magazines!

So, if SIg Sauer comes back with a 'classic' could it get
S&W to re-issue some of the past favorite 3rd Gen pistols like
the 3913, 5906 4006 1006 etc?

S&W oughta be able to make em for a competititve price.

Heck, the 210-2s routinely go for more than these figures, used, so I imagine Sig will sell a pile of these, given the pistol's reputation.

Maybe if this one flies they will consider reintroducing the Hammerli 208s, best rimfire pistola ever made, IMHO.

Perhaps SIg brought it back because the Swiss Army
needed some replacments after decades of sending home
existing 210s with Swiss Veterans?

S&W could make a nice profit simply manufacturing the old style WOOD magnas, targets and combat GRIPS they stopped making in the 90's when they went to rubbers to maximize profit.

But doubt they will.

I'm going to guess you're way too trusting. The original wasn't a "Sig Sauer", it was a SIG made in Neuhausen, Switzerland. There is a strong sentiment the last few years of production weren't up to the standards of the prior 50 or so years. They've also announced "improvements", meaning the accounting folks found ways to improve them. The same thing happened at S&W when they moved to MIM, 2 piece barrels, etc. All in the name of improvements (not sure where the lock falls.) So the German produced P210s will have a period of testing in the marketplace. I'm betting it won't be accepted as well as the marketing folks want to imagine.

I like the lines of the original better than the new extended beavertail.

I have seen only one in my 40+ years of shooting. There was a 16 round model, saw a picture of it in W.H.B Smith's "Small Arms of the World", had a thicker grip.

I'd love to see this, I don't like the looks of the M&P series, now.

Mag capacity I see listed says 8 rounds. I might be interested if they made one in .45ACP or 10mm but a well over $2K 9mm... Next please... My P226 was pricey enough and is more than accurate enough. But I guess this is just another case of what it costs to mill quality steel components and make a good enough profit these days. I don't ever see S&W really doing a huge comeback on the all steel guns when they can do so much better GMROI on half plastic guns and stamped sheet metal parts.

Some 3rd gen models may do quite well. I think if S&W brought back the non-tactical versions of the 3913/3953 they would sell a lot of them.

Yes, a 3rd generation would sell. LAPD has officers transitioning from Glocks to S&W 3rd generation 45's currently. S&W 4566's and 4506's have been rather scarce on the auction boards lately.

West Virginia State Police are keeping their 3rd generation 4566's. S&W is making them - to keep the contract. Not everyone wants the plastic fantastic.

But like moondawg points out, S&W doesn't make a pile of money off 3rd generation pistols like they do from the tupperware guns.

I personally don't think they much care what customers want - unless the customer says they will go with another brand rather than buy M&P's. They seem to just want to produce a cheap product and make as big a profit margin off of it as possible. Simply business -american style! Regards 18DAI.

S&W seems to do everything it can to lessen the value of my stock. I bought at $13.80 a share. Since then, internal locks, no more 3rd gen, and now SWHC stock is at $3.89 Whoever is behind the steering wheel there is an idiot. Also, I held a "Bodyguard" revolver the other day, what a piece of ****!

Would you give $2,300 for a 5906? If so, then the idea has a chance.

$2300 for a 5906? Thats not very realistic, or likely.

The DPA PC 5906's that S&W was making and selling to LEO's until very recently, were only around $1200.

The 4566TSW's that were made (officially) until last year only cost around $900. They can still be found LNIB for less than $600.

I notice S&W fans like to exaggerate what a nice S&W handgun - if made today - properly - would cost retail. Regards 18DAI.

IMO a better comparison for the P210-9 would be the S&W 952, MSRP for which is north of $2000. The P210-9 is said to be produced in the Sauer equivalent of the S&W performance center.
I am not certain of the market for 9mm target pistols but that seems to be the niche they are trying to fill.

My guess is that a modernized P210 will not sell. Those who don't appreciate the pistol will not pay the price asked and those who appreciate it will never be satisfied with anything less than the original.
