Father-in-law gave me this revolver, which I appreciate as it has some good stories to go along with it after all the years that he and MIL have owned it.

Anyway, I don't know anything about H&R revolvers or the .32 S&W caliber. What can you tell me about it?

It came with a 50 round box of ammo. Can you buy this kind of ammo anymore? The rounds are short for the cylinder, is there perhaps a long version also? The prefix in the serial number is AD, if that means anything.

Thanks

My dad tought me how to shoot a handgun on a 4" Model 632 Guardsman, the predessesor to the 732.
I own a 732 identical to yours and it is often CCW (it is less than 20 ft away from me as I type this). Harrington and Richardson made these up into the mid 1980's. They were tough and inexpensve, although not that accurate. Good for their intended purpose, close range self defense.
It is chambered for the .32 S&W Long which is still out there and can be found. It will also fire the .32 S&W "Short"...which is what my dad had his revolver rechambered strictly for (no, I don't know why). The "short" cartridge is still availible as well.
They are not safe queens and if in good shape are wonderful and fun shooters. They will never be collectors items in our lifetime.
Harrington and Richardson, like Iver Johnson, was famous for making inexpensive revolvers for over a century. Probably more of these in the old west than there were Colt or Smith and Wesson's. They went through several different owners and name changes over the years and were last owned by The Marlin Firearms Company..itself absorbed by Remington. They still make rifles and shotguns, but no longer handguns.

You have a decent looking revolver that has a actual value of $50.00-$100.00. There is .32 S&W and .32 S&W Long. Your H&R 732 should be chambered for the Long cartridge but will fire the shorter round. The H&R's are not known for mind boggling accuracy but a decent handgun shooter should be able to commit suicide with it.

I have an earlier model of that revolver, the cylinder doesn't swing out. It is very accurate with hand loaded S&W long cases and SWL bullets. It is built stronger than the I frame S&W revolvers in that caliber.

H&R built the finest M1 Garands and some of the best M-14 rifles. Their guns were known for being built closest of any manufacturer to blueprint specs for these battle rifles.

My H&R revolver has the same charcoal black parkerized finish that was used on the combat rifles. I like it, it is tough and easy to care for. It is neat to see the original color these Gov't weapons wore when they left the plant as most of the M1s and M-14s have had their finish worn by years of handling.

Shoot your revolver and enjoy it, it was likely a bedside protector for your wife's family.

I've owned several H&R's. All good serviceable pistols.Ugly as a mud fence but will keep going after others are all done. Gave my last 732 to my granddaughter. With my handloads she can keep 'em in the black all day.Oh yes, 32 Long.

I've got a 38S&W hammerless H&R, which gives the appearance of being well made and it works just fine. m1gunner's comments about
the combat rifles made by H&R seem to be borne out by the fit, finish,
and overall capabilities of the M14's that I was trained on.
I might just have to try out either a 632 or a 732. It's a good thing
that people didn't buy them for the beauty of their design, or they'd
probably never sold more than a dozen a year. TACC1

I was recently given this same 32 caliber H&R by an elderly friend. I appreciate the info, especially about the ammo choices. I found some shorts in nearby gunshop & will look for longs.

I had several of these pass thru my hands, and currently own a 622.
That said these little guns impress me with there no nonsense style and toughness. For the .32s I recommend either the target wadcutter loads or some of the newer hollow point loads in the Long cartridge. Dale

The little gun seemed to work just fine today. I used up the box of shorts that came with it and have been looking for some longs to try but they are back-orderd in many places it seems.

I guess I'll get these if/when they come back in stock at Midway.
