GB has an NRA Charity Auction going for a beautiful Colt 1911 Anniversary gun. Seems to be just a little out of my price range, but the photos have raised some questions.
There are a couple images on the ivory stocks. Who are these men?
I recognize John Moses Browning's image engraved on the slide but also wonder what is the "onion" turret building also engraved there?
Regardless, it will be fun to watch the auction for the next 24 days.
Sam Colt on the left grip panel. (shame on you! )
"The gun is equipped with authentic ivory grips scrimshawed with the bust of Sam Colt on the left side and the image of the iconic World War I doughboy on the right side. "
I have to admit that Sam was a little before my time... Glad to hear from somebody old enough to have known him.
HA! I'm 31, and that's not in dog years. :P
I figured Sam Colt would have been required learnin' for a "Texan", just like Sam Houston and Davey Crocket. Where would the Texas Rangers be without Mr. Colt?

Unfortunately I'm somewhere in between 31 and Sam's day. So much so that my early Texas History schoolin' was from books that didn't have too many "pichurs".
