yard sale find - - a sad tale!
I recently found a Schrade Old Timer belt sheath & knife at a yard sale for the sum of $2.00.
Upon getting home & examining my new found treasure, I realized it was as new, never had file or stone touched it's blade.
Now the BAD, on that same blade it says "China"
So many old line American brand name products are now out sourcing goods & jobs to China, makes 'made in U.S.A.' a real wonder.
No wonder our economy is in the gutter!

Schrade went out of
business as a knife company in 2004. Taylor Brands now owns the name and they are having Shrade marked knives (some of the old models and some that Schrade never made) made offshore (read China)
Taylor Cutlery also markets Uncle Henry and Smith Wesson marked knives - most - if not all made in China
Some of the ex Schrade employees set up their own knife company
Canal Street Cutlery
Our Story
If you want ba great, American made knife get a Canal Street, a Case, or another great one is GEC

I've carried Schrade 3 blade pocket knives for over 35 years. A T-990 I think. My currant one is made in America. But as knives wear out & get lost I'm sure sad to find they are now made in China. I will order a new one from the new company. I would be lost without my Schrade.

Years ago a small local store was selling off it's knives and a friend suggested I buy a Schrade Old Timer (70T) as the company was going out of business. Good knife and a quality case. Wouldn't be without it. Interesting how things like a favorite gun, or knife, can become so meaningful to us.

A few months ago I found a nice S&W boot knife on ebay. I bid I won. When It arrived it also said made in China.
I can't fault these companies for going to China. A lot of the people out there buy things based on price.

I carried a Gerber Ivory Micarta LST from about 1982-1992, and lost it at a meeting - went back the next day, and it was gone.
Bought a Schrade Old Timer, but found it too heavy for my pocket use, so I kept it in my desk drawer through 4 different offices, went to use it last week and it's disappeared. No one at work would have taken it, I really miss it - funny how attached we get to those things. For my pocket I have one of those little Swiss Army knives that I've used so much I've worn the insignia off the handle.
I lost the tweezers for that a couple of months ago, and decided to buy a new one. I carried it one day, and now it's in a drawer in its box. It just wasn't the same. Humans can sure be funny.

Don't forget to look at Queen Cutlery. Made in America since 1922. D2 tool steel to boot.

I went flea marketing today and scored BIG! Check out the old style gas cans with vents. I'll probably kill the ozone but I'm glad to have them in inventory. $43 worth of treasure. A Gerber folding saw, 2 Schlage Kryptonite padlocks, a gallon of Odorless mineral spirits and 4 made in USA gas cans.

I found an unsharpened 1980 Schrade Scrimshaw SC507 at a yard sale last week. It came home with me.
