Should I consider this High Power?
Talking over the phone, HP for sale for 550.00 Satin Finish hard chrome, near new ( have not seen it yet) says owner. Belgian made, Pacmayr grips, says some moron filed the front sight. He says the front sight is blued and dovetailed, can be replaced. My ? is, does this front sight statement sound true, should I drive the 20 miles to look at it for the price? Would or could the front sight be replaced? Thanks

I have lots of time and I would do the drive if I wasn't doing anything else.

I would think you could replace the front site with ease. When you say made in Belgium, some pistols say "Made in Belgium---Assembled in Portugal". That would be my concern.

I would at least look at it if I were interested in it. My first question would be what model this gun is (MKII, MKIII, Practical, etc) so I could determine if the front sight was dove-tailed from the factory or if this was a later modification. If it's factory, then replacing it shouldn't be a problem, but if it was done later then you would have to find a sight that fits that particular dovetail cut.
The second question is whether the hard-chrome is factory (I know they made at least one model that was plated with chrome or something similar, and the frame of the practical is plated). If not, I would be wondering why it was chromed.
Price sounds about right for one assembled in Portugal (I just found a MKII for $560), and there's nothing wrong with the guns that are assembled in Portugal, but collectors like the ones made and assembled in Belgium and are willing to pay more for them.

Since the sight can be replaced and it can be made whole stock....yes...well worth the drive...but I would ask him to take a pic and email it to you...all the satin chrome models I have seen had adjustable sights and the front was not the dovetail style.

I did a little searching out of curiosity and the only matte chrome one I can find with a dovetailed front sight is this one that has a gold trigger. I found some photos of these guns with and without the dovetailed front sight, so I'm not 100% certain that it is factory, but it does look like the same front sight that the factory puts on the Standard and Practical models.

For $550 I'll drive from here! My only worry is this. If he messed with the front sight, what else has he done?
That being said, go look. Great price!
