Got a Rock Island M1911a1 and love it! Dont know why I hadnt bought a 1911 a long time ago. Only thing that I really didnt like about it was the smooth grips but so far its a dandy to shoot. Maybe here before too long when im familiarized with the 1911 I can get something a little more fancy. Shooting wise I dont know how much better I should expect. I was trail riding with the wife to get raspberries and decided to try it out. Hit a 16 oz water bottle 6 out of 8 times (missed first and last shot) at about 25 yards so I wont complain. Fit and finish is great, Im happy with it.

Hope yours runs as good as mine. They are a very good deal in my opinion. Mine has a nice set of Herrett's installed. Here's a couple of pix, Shoo

for more comfort and accurate shooting.
I also painted my front blade sight bright orange, for better sight acquistion.

I have a RIA 1911 9mm Tactical gotta say I love it and for the price it cant be beat. I was in your mind set to I wanted to get something to learn on before I upgraded to something nicer. I have been so happy with mine I been thinking about getting another in GI 45acp Trim. There extremely solid well built gun in this photo my gun is no longer stock.

Congrats. I've had my Tactical for awhile now & am thoroughly pleased with it.

It is a Universal Truth that everybody should own a 1911 and a .357 wheelgun.

I put a set of Pearce finger groove inserts & plan on something a bit nicer for the grips. I R old, so I put a few coats of Krylon flouro orange paint on the front sight.

I'm on my second RIA 45acp. The first felt incredibly smooth
when manually cycling it. A friend has it now, so it was time
for another. Wasn't really happy with the smooth grips, so I
went with Hogues like 586L-FRAME. Cost about $10 on a well-known
auction site. Never had a problem with the first one, or I wouldn't have given it to a friend.
They're accurate enough, when I can catch a glimpse of the front sight. I would normally have changed the flat mainspring housing
to an arched version, but found this one feels just fine in the hand.

Interesting thread, everyone I talk to that has one, loves it... I just talked to my LSG owner/buddy the other day, and he was saying how much he loves his 9mm, and how accurate it is for him. This coming from a guy with a heck of a gun collection...

Myself, I can't seem to buy anything but Colt 1911s. I've tried to buy other brands, actually bought a Kimber once, but otherwise just end up with the Ponies. Maybe I'll just have to try one of these Phillipino wonders!

I just didnt feel like dropping 1000 dollars on one and the RIA does everything ive wanted it to so far. I cant wait to actually stretch its legs and put a few hundred downrange. Would it hurt for me to take some 600 grit to the feedramp? its not snagged any yet but it looks like it needs a little bit of work, some burs on there or should I wait to see how it does before touching it? Also, I have pretty much only put 230gr FMJ through it, any reliability issues with any other ammo like i expect there to be? Thanks.

I don't think polishing it would be a bad idea. I know my 9mm Tactical came polished from the factory. It might also not be a bad idea to go ahead and shoot a few rounds thought it to see if the burs smooth out on there own. Then polishing it to a nice shiny finish. My understanding thought is if you do decide to polish it have to make sure to be ultra careful not to change the angle of the feed ramp.

I'm tickled with my RIA Commander. I picled it up for $300. It came with box, papers, factory wood grips as well as these Pachmayrs. It also came with about 35 rounds of factoy ammo in a box. Far as I can tell, that was likely all it had been fired. I've shot several boxes through it, and I've experienced very good accuracy and 100% reliability.

I did a few more modifications to my RIA .45 than most of you did. It has been completely trouble free for over one thousand rounds.

Wanting q 1911 but not willing to put out the big bucks, I bought a RIA Tactical a few years ago. After a break in period with a few failures to eject it runs flawlessly now. Mine has the parkerized finish and very plain grips but the fit is very good. A much better gun that it's modest price would indicate.

I just bought a cousin early this month. Same manufacturer (Armscor in the Philippines), same service center in Pahrump, NV, different US distributor. The Citadel brand appears to have a higher retail price than Rock Island Armory, but the fit and finish are also finer as I was able to compare them side-by-side. I had been looking for a compact .45 ACP for concealed carry and this one became available at a discount (sadly, from a gunshop closing).

It performs flawlessly. I did RTFM (read the fookin manual) and it said the gun is " . . . chambered for . . . 45 ACP cartridge. . . round nose configuration" and that use of semiwadcutters, et. al. of flat nose configuration may require adjustment of the feed ramp. Compared to my Colt Gold Cup, the feed ramp does appear to be more vertical, so I only use the recommended ammo in the Citadel.

Trigger is so crisp. Recoil for such a compact pistol is quite manageable. It has everything I'm looking for in a concealed weapon, for a much lower price. The other foremost candidates were the Glock 36 (not my favorite trigger action) and the Colt Defender, but the price on this Armscor-made 1911 beats them both.

That appears similar to the RIA Tactical package. Better sights, trigger, beavertail, ambi safety.

My full size had issues with SWC at first. Better quality magazines (mine came with an ACT. The one I got was junk.) and a thousand rounds or so of round nose and it feeds SWC just fine now. It's strictly a range piece so I run it oil slingin' wet.

Owners swear by the shop in Nevada. They say they can make those 1911s feed anything. The compact sizes have been known to sometimes be a bit finicky.

I'm starting with ths one for now. Planning on adding more.

ive shot about 2 boxes (more like 1.5) and am having some problems with the 2nd round hanging on a fresh mag. is this fairly common with mag loading problems or just the mag not broken in or what? besides that second round its fine. even after removing it the rest go fine and dandy.
