Default Improving a Glocks performance...G19 3rd gen.

Just installed a Lone Wolf kit and dropped the trigger pull to 3.5lbs. End of the week the rest of the trigger group is going to be tuned by a Smith. Thinking of replacing the OEM guide rod with a stainless version.

What else increases function and performance?

Fooling around with it too much is likely to decrease reliability.

If you want to increase function and reliability, leave it alone it's not a 1911 it is meant to work right out of the box

The less modifications the better when it comes to glocks. Same for the 1911. All too often you don't increase performance, you just decrease reliability.

"It can't hurt and might help", can lead to more problems than it can solve.

Do all y'all discuss your 3913s & 686s over on the Glock forum(s)?
Just wondering.........

I am not a member of any Glock forums, nor do i care to be. I wouldn't get any work done if I had to run all over the net talking about every kind of gun I like. So I talk about all types of firearms on the two or three forums, where I am a member. I am not sold on the myth of the "one true gun" nor do I wish to limit myself to one brand.

Right now I am participating in a Glock thread, next time it might be a flintlock thread because I have both. Kinda like MG's and old 22 rifles too. But that doesn't change the fact that I have quite a few S&W revolvers. Not that I wouldn't participate in a Colt New Service thread

The only time I had noticeable "IMPROVEMENT" in any Glock was going to the Glock Shooting Sports Association match, and was surprised to have one of the *factory* mechanics take a look....

I had an original model G23 that had NEVER been taken apart since new in the early 90s, and it was getting admittedly a bit odd at times.

They tore it down, made a note to me that the parts were original to the gun but had been updated since. They cleaned and twiddled and laughed now & again, then installed a handful of new parts....all for no charge.

I then went out and blew the plates off the Texas Star in 35 seconds....which is WAY better than I ever had done such with any weapon.

Little story to encourage shooting the GSSF. I had always stayed away but that now has changed. There's 2 in my area each fall, and I won't be missing them....nor the chance to get another look at just how precise those factory armorers move. They handled their repair kits like a concert organist. They suggested only factory authorized items as well.

Ok, and thanks guys. I am a S&W revolver guy...and have spent years learning how to repair and tune them. Have a pile of tools, and am fairly competent with them.

I do the same with my 1911's to a lesser extent.

The Glock trigger was almost eight pounds. Getting it to a level that works for me and my style of shooting, is a personal choice. It is a steel plate gun and not for CCW.

As to posting about Glock, or any other platforms...that is why we have the Lounge. Like NKJnut, I belong to enough forums already. I know that there is more than enough grey matter to get a solid answer to many gun questions I might ask here.

What a resource the Lounge can be...

I wonder why the folks who worry about the posting of a Glock thread in the S&W Lounge took the time to read the thread and even comment.

It appears that the title of the thread was pretty clear... "Improving a Glocks performance"

I'm not aware of any robo function that automatically opens these "bothersome" threads for the unwary.

I have purchased seven Glock's since fall of 2009, all from the same shop and salesman. Six were used pistols, and each one was taken back to Glock, Inc. (about 38 miles from my house) for upgrades and to be checked out. They are set to factory specs, and I do not fool with them other than sights.

Glocks have a very short trigger reset, about 3/8". Learn to control the trigger, and the factory pull will suit just about anyone.

That was the stock weight for the long slide models. Made switching from my issued 22 with NY trigger to the 3.5lb-equipped 24C an adventure for the first few rounds

About the only other thing you could do is get a after market barrel with tighter tolerances. I have a Glock 17 and there just kinda basic there not much to tinker with.

FWIW: A 3.5# Glock connector installed and no other work will have a trigger that breaks around 4.5#.

I want a polish job next, to smooth out the grittiness. No further trigger pull weight reduction is needed.

What is the upgrade value in the stainless steel rod over the original?

‪Glock 19.MOV‬‏ - YouTube
As you can see in the above VIDEO, I have a box stock 3rd generation Glock 19 also. It has been totally reliable for thousands of rounds and it's as accurate as......................most Smith & Wessons. I would recommend spending your money on ammo and practice not aftermarket parts. 99%+ of the guns that I shoot have no aftermarket work done on them (except for grips).

On my two Glocks I replaced the connector with a 3.5 and put in a NY1 trigger.

It changes the trigger from a staple gun to a actual smooth trigger pull.

That is correct, because you are measuring the trigger pull from where your finger contacts the trigger. The 3.5 pound measurement is from the very tip of the trigger.

Rule3 mentioned that he likes a 3.5 lb. connector with an NY1. As odd as that sounds it is actually not a bad setup as gives the trigger a completely different feel.
