My Great Grandfathers revolver.
My Grandfather (Pappy) died last Friday morning. Me and my Mom and Dad have been going through all his stuff and I found his Dads picture holding a topbreak revolver. I remember sneaking that revolver out of the drawer when I was a kid and playing with it. While looking around I found the revolver, its an IverJohnson 5 shot 32cal. It has a serial number (I assume) on the bottom of the trigger guard that says 8545. My great grandfathes initals are on the bottom of the grip and frame. Picture is hard to see but the orignal picture is much clearer. This picture was taken in 1906 when he was 19 years old. We found a 1915 German Luger and other revolvers that i will make seperate posts about.

Nice memory. Sorry for your loss.
Can you imagine walking into the local portrait studio today for a picture with your favorite revolver?

My Grandfarther was 92 when he died last week, my Great grandfather was 19 years old when this pic was taken in 1906. I was 3 or 4 when my Great Grandfather "Herman" died. I can remember him as he was missing alot of toes from frost bite in WWI.

That number on the bottom of the trigger guard is most of the serial number. The complete number, including the letter prefix, is on the left side of the grip frame. You have to take off the left grip to see it; be careful as those old hard rubber grips are brittle.

FYI. Be extremely careful if you decide to pull the grips off the Luger ever. The corner of the wood can chip or crack by the Safety.

Speaking of the Luger. Its stamped 1915 on the top. 1100 is stamped on it as well (serial number?). Also 00 is stamped on all parts of the gun. The gun is grooved for a shoulder stock. Any more info on this gun or any good websites to visit?

Better yet, imagine senior pictures. I have a similar circumstance that will come up in the future, wish I could find a picture though. My mother handed down to my youngest son a Colt Official Police that was his Great Grandfather's.

IF the 1100 is on the left side, below the barrel it's the SN. The luger I've got has the last 2 digits of the SN stamped all over it as well. Atleast on the take down lever, side plate, saftey etc.
Just google Luger Forum and you'll find a lot of hits.

I always knew I would get my grandfathers guns when he died. I would give anything to trade these guns back to have him here today. I cry everyday on my way to work but it will get better over time. But I have lots of pictures and theses pieces of steel and wood to remember him by.

Lugers are built in blocks of 10,000 and then a suffix is added under the number on the front of the frame. A cursive letter is used and is part of the serial number. 1100 may or may not be the true serial number.

I know a guy in Elk City, OK who would do it for ya, and then talk about his last trip to the range. Heck, he'd probably go out to the range with you and shoot some guns AND some pictures!
MackTech, I'm sorry for the loss of your Grandfather. I lost my 90 y/o WWII vet Grandfather in May. His guns are stored right now, but I've been promised at least one. I'm looking forward to having that steel and wood memory, too.
