What caliber did you get? I have several 3rd gen in .44 special and .45 colt. Colt does stand behind them.

Never mind, magnified it and seen it`s 45 colt. You may find .454 bullets work best. Many depending on what era were overbored. Does yours have the removeable or fixed bushing? Here is mine in .44 special. I sent my .45 colt back to colt and complained the clyinders were overbored. They sent me a new clyinder with the removeable bushing numbered to the gun. No charge and I only paid shipping to them one way.

Those rascals do it for me--I used to have two, both were stolen due to my stupidity and carelessness. One of them had factory ivory grips--grrrrr.
They are a LOT of fun to shoot with cowboy loads.

Merril,
Thanks for the info...it is a fixed bushing.
Down at my beach place...no 45 LC ammo to be found.
Back to the woods next week and it will no longer be unfired.

Good memory.
Traded it for a couple of Smiths and some cash.
These old dogs(saa) are basicaly useless in today's world just fun to have.
Sold off all my 44's(29's)..beat me up too much.
45 LC and 41 mag are my only big bores remaining.
41,s are limited to woods use only during deer season.

OHMIGOODNESS!! How can you say such a thing! And you a Texan!
Just kidding.
I assume as a defensive weapon there are better handguns although a Sheriff's model will conceal pretty well.
I have a bucket full of SAA's in Colts and Colt clones as I shoot CAS. Also Ruger Vaqueros.
I have four Ruger Vaqueros that are used while horseback. A tough gun in the back-woods and with fixed sights they will always hold their zero. Three in .44 Magnum and one in .44 Special. All loaded to about 1,000 fps with a 240 grain bullet.

Something about the Colt SA that keeps me interested. Now I'm a Smith man but love the old Colt's. Mine is a first Gen. gun [1926] so it's 5 years older than I am. I read Elmer Keith's writings & ruined the gun as a collectors item but converted it fron 32-20 to 44 Spec. back about 1958. That old sixgun has taken 5 deer over the years for me.

My favorite barrel length and caliber! And great service from Colt.
Removeable cylinder bushings left us with the end of the 2nd generations and came back c. 1999. Now if they would just CCH the hammers again w/o having to special order it.

I have a weak spot for the Colt SAA. This is mine. .45colt made in 1973.
I like your Colt in this barrellenght 4 3/4 gives a fine balance.
I do own a thirth gen in .44special to and a lot of clones.

Colt Model Ps are the big problem with my Smith and Ruger collecting:
I have 3 1st gens, 3 2nd gens and 9 3rd gens. Six are 45s and five are 44s. All 4 3/4s except one 3, one 4, one 5 1/2 and one 7 1/2.

Back ground
The heck with the gun. Tell us about the water and sand in the back ground of the gun picture. Life looks good for you. I wished I were a retired Texas fuzz. I wonder if Colt makes surf fishing poles???

They are. Nice looking .45 you have there. I have a similar one and get it out every now and then for a few rounds. Over the years I have found I am not much of an SAA shooter. I think there is a bit of an art to shooting one, compared to an S&W - at least there is if the gun is in my hand.
Nevertheless, they are fun. Congratulations on finding that great looking specimen.

Here is another I have. It started out as a .44 wcf in 4 3/4" and was shipped to the copper queen mine, bisbee arizona 10/31/1906.
Old gun writer tommy bish and al capone owner of king gun works rebuilt it to .44 special around the late 1950s or early 1960s. I got it from ura "duke" duvall around 1970. Duke, a close friend of mine was capones brother in law, knew bish, and worked part time in the shop.

.44 Colt SAAs
These two are my favorites:
This is a 2nd gen from 1958 that started life as a 5 1/2" 38 Special. They aren't very popular with collectors so although in 99% condition I picked up cheap and turned it into one they didn't make, a 44 Colt with USFA barrel and black powder chamfer cylinder chambered for 44 Spl with separate cyl bushing like the 1st gen guns (and now late 3rd gen guns). Fit the vintage India Sambar Stags to it.
This one is a 3rd gen Sheriff 44 Spl/44-40 convertible with a USFA chamfered cylinder and cyl bushing. I got the grips unfitted on E-bite and fit them.

My favorite gun of all time. And you got a classic configuration there. Here's a 1958 .38 special with a cut down .357 barrel. I have an older .44 Special barrel and cylinder for this one...maybe.
And a pair of .45's. 1958 and 1971.

Time to break out the reloading tools.Different bullet weights and powder charges will change poi.Mine was shooting patterns until I learned the throats were oversized.Tracked down some 454 diameter bullets and now it shoots tight groups right to poa.
