Talking Ultimate Colt-SW showdown (pics)...

I was surprised to find beautiful two blued gems under the tree this year. On casual inspection however, I noticed that the bluing on the Smith had some "crazing" while the Colt had that deep blue Python thing going - could it be that the QC at SW was that bad?

I decided to do a more in-depth analysis...

The roll marks on the Colt are sharper than the Smith but maybe the SW has more detail...

...and the SW is marked on both sides:

No doubt about the winner of barrel size:

Colt also is a slight winner in caliber:

The SW is built for smaller hands...

...while the Colt invites a manly grip:

The Colt seemed like it might be edging out the SW, but on really close inspection, I was shocked at this discovery on the Colt (have we really come to this in this country):

While the SW at least leaves one guessing as to origin:

I hope that through this test, I have contributed in some small way to that Colt vs. SW controversy - I will leave the judgement as to who is the ultimate winner up to the individual forum member. As for me, I have to admit that most mornings I find myself reaching for the one that has the highest capacity

It's nice being retired!!

Thanks for all your hard work with the detailed analyses of these two fine products. You're right it's nice to be retired, but some times I can't wounder if we don't have a little to much free time.

Well, I think the "crazing" you implied on the Smith & Wesson cup is simply "artistic incline" and adds to the overall look. Also the difference in size is an inherent design feature that Smith chooses to use to get you up off the sofa and moving around so you don't lose motor skills in your retirement. Also - this smaller design allows for a replenish on a more frequent basis therefore allowing your coffee to remain hotter. All in all, I believe the Smith to be a superior design and far more artistically pleasing. But, that's just my humble opinion, you are free to feel differently. By the way - excellent photos - did you use your Cell phone for this session?

I believe your S&W model has been "damaged" sometime during it's lifetime. Perhaps used with too hot a load too many times? I have an identical one, and it still is in pristine condition, but then I haven't put too many extra hot loads through it.

Great field review! Keep up the hard work. I noticed neither featured the dreaded internal lock. When a man needs his coffee, he can't have a mechanical failure depriving him of it.

Good koffiemug revieuw. I like them both. I should use the Colt mug in the morning to weak up and the Smith mug later that day to keep clear.

One way to find out:

The engineer will tell you, "It's twice the size it needs to be".

It is obvious that the Colt is a higher capacity than the S&W. Must be a pre -Clinton.

But, the main question, which remains unanswered is do either except +P Grinds??

It seems that excessive use of High test Java" in the the SW has caused major structural damage.

As the final test, I recommend you shoot the Colt cup with a S&W, and vice versa. Whichever one is left in bigger pieces wins, though I don't know if you would credit the gun or the cup?

If the S&W mug was not marked with the country of origin, it was USA made. It would not require import marking by law.

Bear in mind:
1. Smith and Wesson is ok
2. Colt is better
3. Ruger is much better
4. Glock is tops
5. Taurus is better than all the rest

I assume you are referring to coffee cups, not handguns, right?
