Default CZ Premium 550 Rifle....

Last gun of the year. Picked it up a hour ago.

Owned a bunch of CZ rifles over the years, but never a Premium gun. This one is in .270 Frankly, until today....I didn't know this gun was ever in production.

Hand fitted, it will be interesting to see if it lives up to its reputation.

Happy New Years....Y'All....

giz, i have several CZ's, and love them.

Haven't heard of a "premium" model, and it's not on their web site.

Does it have better wood, what other features, compared to a standard CZ ?

It was offered a few years back. The CZ Ultimate is somewhat similar and still offered.

The Premiums are basically a hand fitted gun, and more accurate. The actions are jewelled and the inside of my receiver is more polished. Overall fitment is noticeably better.

Giz

Edited to add that it is hand checkered...

Giz...let us know what you think of this rifle after you've had a chance to "ring it out"....I've always heard good things about the CZ line, but would be real interested to hear your opinion ( which I consider unbiased and informative ).

Thanks in advance.

Don,

In a odd twist of fate... Out with the New, In with the Old.

I am hopefully picking up a Pre 64 Winchester .270 tomorrow.

It will be interesting to compare the best CZ builds to that old Pre 64....

Congratulations to you. I have always admired the CZ line, and find my 452 is a winner, even if only a .22.

A few weeks ago I bought an inexpensive .223, and sorta-kinda wish I had gone for the CZ.

We await the wringing out!

Regards,

Dyson

Nice pick up on the CZ. I really like my CZ rifles, they very well built and accurate.

Great find Giz, that's a nice one! I'm sure it's going to be very accurate, those CZs are excellent shooters.

Happy New Year!

Some of the CZ models are called Luxus for the deluxe models in some Euro catalogs. I think de Luxe was originally a French term that has been corrupted into English as Deluxe. Luxus seems to be the German and maybe Czech version.

I think you'll find that rifle to be very well made and exremely accurate. It should compare well to current M-70's, which are excellent rifles, with better stocks than the old ones.
But when the pre-'64 M-70-'s were being made, workmen cost less and the handfitting may show more detail than on a modern CZ. However, the CZ (I think) has a nicer stock and will probably hold its own well against even the older Winchesters. I wouldn't be surprised if it also shoots as well or better.

Even the late Jack O'Connor, who was a champion of the pre-'64 M-70, was honest about the quality of certain foreign rifles, especially the Mannlicher-Schoenauer, the BSA Majestic Featherweight, and the Sako. And the cartridge here was probably his favorite.

I think that when you "Czech" out this .270, you'll be able to tell us some good news. Congratulations on acquiring this rifle. But for gosh sakes, "wring" it out, not "ring" it out as one post above suggested doing. You don't want to "ring" a rifle barrel!

Oh: if you can hunt moose up there, did you know that Federal and maybe others load Nosler Partition bullets in their Premium line of ammo? That 150 grain .270 load should also do very well on black bear. I think the listed velocity is 2850 FPS. And I think it's a terrific all-round .270 load, if not perhaps as flat as a specialty pronghorn hunter might desire for shots at orbeyod 400 yards

Well,

I picked up the Pre 64 model 70 tonight.

I've owned maybe 20 CZ rifles, BRNO's....

The Pre 64 is my first. CZ doesn't hold a candle to it. It is truly amazing how great our guns once were. My 550 might outshoot the Winchester (maybe)...

But it is Raquel Welsh against Lady GaGa...

Very nice. I have an unfired 550 in my safe, but it isn't a premium version. My three boys each have a CZ 452 trainer. Very nice guns.

Welch, not Welsh. And the CZ is no Lady GaGa, although I do like her song, "The Edge of Glory". It's more of a Doutzen Kroes or Alessandra Ambrosio. (If you can't place those Victoria's Secret Angels, there are many videos featuring them on YouTube. You married guys can watch when your wife is out. ) I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I think some things have actually improved. I'd take Doutzen over Marilyn Monroe, any day.

No disrespect to Raquel. I actually once mentioned her in an article that I published in, "American Handgunner".

The older M-70's were fine rifles, but comparing them to today's guns is sort of like comparing oranges to tangerines.
Which may well have been your point, although I never name oranges. But CZ makes very nice "tangerines."

I've got a little tack driver CZ in .17 rimfire. It also has beautiful furniture/wood. Good for wackin' p-dogs in S. Dakota. When the wind lays that is.
Congrats
