Ruger 1911 Range Report
Sent about 125 rounds downrange today. After some work to get the sights adjusted (out of the box it was shooting about 9" left) the gun it a tack driver and handles very well. Ran 100% and was extremely comfortable to shoot. Ruger has a great trigger on this gun, it reminded me alot like my Model 41. I don't have a trigger scale but I would guess about 4lbs. with a very predictable take up and smooth break. After some break in at 50' off sandbags it just drilled a big ragged hole. I forgot to bring a camera so I dont have any photos. If anyone is looking for a nice not too expensive stainless 1911 the Ruger is a good one. They are hard to find right now at a reasonable price but worth the effort IMHO. Switching between the 1911 and the 25-3 made for a very enjoyable day at the range.

Definitely on my "MUST have" list. In addition to the wait I'll be dealing with the Single Shot Exemption hassle & $$$ but a local FFL may be doing the SSE by the time I'm able to get one.

I'm interested. Wonder if they plan on making a Commander sized 1911?

glencal1, I purchased an SR1911 about a month ago and like you, I am very pleased with it. I paid 630+ 6% state sales tax. They are difficult to find in my area also.
I have yet to try anything other than Winchester white box 230 fmj and the same by Federal, both as sold by our local Wally World. Cheap American ammo for sure, but good to break a 45ACP 1911 in with for the first 3-4 hundred rounds.
My gun averages about 1.5- 2 inches at 15 yards, offhand with this ammo. I had one FTF in the first 7 rounds using the Ruger supplied 7 round magazine. No other malfunctions have occurred.
I think for the most part the trigger is fine considering the price point of this pistol. I know it will improve somewhat with more use. Mine measures just over 5 pounds pull on a digital scale.
I really like the sights on this pistol. Overall it would be hard to find a better value in a 1911 at the price I paid for this gun. Ruger did a very good job of including nice features and good fit and finish on their first effort at making a 1911.

Guess I gotta put one of those Rugers on my short list....needs an ambidextrous safety though.

I would like to have one also. The video mentions Commander length and maybe alloy frame to lighten. Wait and see.
Thanks for the range report.

I have one I came by on a trade and it is also a tack driver out of the box. Only issue is that when I checked the thumb safety by pulling the trigger with it 'on' and then taking it off the hammer falls...no properly fitted thumb safety should ever do that. I'm sure Ruger would fix it, but I hate MIM in my 1911s so I just ordered a bunch of parts from Brownell's to change it all out. I'm pretty sure it will then take the place of my Springfield 1* done by Joe Bonitz some years back as my general 1911 using gun...if my son doesn't talk me out of it.
It is a very impressive 1911 for the price point IMO.

A 1911 and a S&W 25-2 make a great pair.
Throw in a Light Weight Commander, and a S&W 325 Night Guard and you have a great second pair.

Not a 1911, but it IS a Ruger to go with my '52 vintage M1950 Target.
