Colt PP-PPS
Picked up a couple of classic Colt's over the last few weeks.
Police Positive in .38 S&W dates to 1926, barrel is 5 inches.
The second one is this 5" barrel PPS, A 1913 vintage in .38 Special.
These small framed Colt's are great shooters. If you have one show it off.

I like those. One of my first handguns was a PPS in .38 Special with four-inch barrel. Had the old gutta percha (?) grips like yours does. By the late 1920's they were using wood as standard, as on your PP model.
In fact, I am writing a fan fiction in which the son of a British nobleman/adventurer is going to get one, as he's just 12, and the small grip should fit his hands well. His family will go to colonial India, where he may need to shoot snakes or dacoits. (Thugs famous for strangling people. One cult was actually called Thuggee, which is where the word, "thug" originated.)
My own first handgun was a Webley MK VI, though, and I was 13 and handled it okay.
I am glad to see your post with photos of both PP and PPS models. People constantly confuse them, and later PPS guns were sometimes also chambered in .38 S&W, which makes them even more confusing to those who will not pick up any reference books on Colts.
I think Colt callled their version of the .38 S&W the .38 Colt New Police. Without checking, I think the .38 Short Colt was a different round.

The PP series was also Colt's most produced revolvers. One could go broke trying to collect all the different variations. Good luck with your book.

Man, they look great. I like the longer barrels on them.
