Hi,my buddy(an ex cop) has a 7 year old never fired sig sauer p232 380 that he will sell to me for $300 with a case.I'm looking or a gun just for self defense and will probably only shoot it a few times at the range.i haven't ever owned a pistol before but he says this is a decent gun at a great price.I have no reason not to trust him just wondering what other people think. thank you

Welcome to S&W Forum! My theory when buying something is if you want it and the price seems fair then it's a good deal. I've bought plenty of stuff over the years that I found cheaper afterwards. I don't imagine you can find a new one for $300. I've never owned a P232 but I do know many guys that did and I can't recall any complaints. Sig makes fine handguns so the quality should not be an issue.

The P-232 supposedly fixed some functioning issues with the P-230. Japanese police asked for improvements, I believe.
If you are satisfied with the low power of the .380 cartridge, the P-232 should be a sound deal. The price is good.

That is a good price on a nice pistol. However, it is a large gun for the cartridge it is chambered for. One can find 9mm Parabellum and .40 S&W caliber pistols about that size and weight. Being a blowback design, it will recoil about like a 9mm P.
It will suit your desires and needs just fine, if that is what you want. If it is truly unfired, please buy yourself five hundred rounds of ammo and take it to the range. The pistol needs to be fired to insure it works properly and will not fail you when it is needed. And we all need the target practice.

AS mentioned by Colby, large for it's caliber. That being said they are extremely accurate, comfortable to shoot and mine has been nothing but reliable. I have never had one function issue with this pistol in 7 years. 300 is an extremely good price for my area anyway.

Here is a photo of my Walther PP .32 a.c.p. lying on top of my S&W 3953 9mm. The Walther is comparable in size to the Sig P232.

P230 -vs- P232
Not that much difference between the two. The P232 has a firing pin block. Serrations on the slides are different. The P230 has the typical dot the i SIG two dot sight. Grip panels changed on the P232 but they are interchangeable.
Folks do say the guns are too big for the caliber (.380) but I think they are a perfect size. 9mm's the same size are not very pleasant to shoot...380's that are smaller are not very much fun either. I find the P230/232 guns to be a perfect size to carry and shoot.
The blued ones have an aluminum frame and weigh less. The stainless ones are heavier of course.
