Colt Pre War 1911a1 Commercial
Santa delivered a early Christmas gift. Shipped May 13 1931 to Murta Appleton & co Philadelphia, Pa. In a 5 gun shipment.I would say its 98%. Trigger pull is unreal.Colt does not put a finish on a gun 45 like this anymore. DSC_0020.jpg

Congratulations! That is a REAL 1911. The stuff that has been made in the last 40 some years is just wannabee 1911s. Larry

Very Nice 1911 Lowhog.
That's when men we're men and guns we're guns.
I hope you left Santa some Hot Wings and Beer
instead of cookies for that one.....

I once owned a .38 Super in Match Grade, but with fixed sights. Made about 1935. That thing was so slick... Didn't shoot for sour apples, due to the headspacing issue discovered in the 1960's, but it was sure built.
I have held a few .45's of that era, too, and the workmanship then will probably not be seen again.
Modern guns are made of tougher steel and heat treatments, but I'd still like one of those old Colts. But they now cost so much, you probably shouldn't shoot them. Modern ones are usually more accurate, anyway.

Beautiful pistol, thanks for showing it. Murta,Appleton retailed Heiser holsters under their name-I have a couple, I'll see if any of them are for a Colt .45.
Regards,
turnerriver

Nice Colt, lowhog. . I've heard the 1911's, made between the wars, are considered by some to be of the highest quality in comparison. . I have a mid-1930's commercial also and noticed right off how tight and precision the fit of the slide is.

One of my three colts is a 57 Guvment Super 38, it is a drill, not bad with WW white box, but 125gr Silvertips are peaches, have the box papers and the cleaning brush, I have played with it way to much. Unfortunately I live in Central Illinois where moth and rust doth corrupt, I need a golden rod and a fireproof safe ASAP. Lord help us all, or maybe just move to Texas and Secede? Billy!

Yeah, a Super Match, but with fixed sights, an option then. The gun was hand -fitted and had a really smooth honed action.
My son's wife's family have a very nice .45 auto made in the 1930's. Beautiful gun. I think my DIL's grandfather bought it new. It seems to have spent most of its life in a desk drawer. Not for sale; an heirloom, as it should be.

OK, I'm going to be the one that says it. 1911 and 1911A1 are military model pistols, and made by several companies through out the war years. The civilian version Colt made is the Government Model, which is what you have. And a beauty at that.
I know, everyone is calling the JMB design a 1911 these days. So not looking for an argument.

I's a lot easier to type "1911" than "Colt's Government Model".
