They are supposed to shoot sub MOA out of the box, Magazines are expensive ($50+). The gun is based on the Browning BAR and a certain Browning stock & forend will fit if you don't like the pistol grip stock.

Thanks, I did some research and although they may be great rifles they fell in a niche that no one wanted. They are a little less money than a AR is what caught my eye.

Might as well get a AR style 308.

Moving on to some other brain storm

A FNAR and an AR-10 are apples and oranges. If you want a .308 AR, buy an AR-10. If you are looking for a long range precision rifle, buy the FNAR. I've owned both.

I can clover leaf rounds at 300 yds with an FNAR and make 800 yd shots with it consistently. It is was designed to be as accurate as a bolt, but to able to deliver faster follow-up shots, which it does. It was not designed to be a self defense rifle, that's where the AR-10 comes in. A fully tricked out and properly equipped FNAR goes 14-15 lbs, again not an all day SD carry rifle.

Thanks. That would be a bit much to lug around. I think I will stick to looking at bolt actions. It would be more of a range rifle, not hunting or SD.
All decked out it is pretty damn cool looking though and the price is not bad until you add optics that are worthy.

Optics are always the killer. The best optics for an AR cost more than the gun.

Beats me why FN did not make this gun to take FAL mags. I note that they do not discuss weight but I think SR has set you straight there. What I wonder is how the weight is distributed. I know a that a FAL with a plastic butt is an unbalanced beast as well as being heavy. A Hakim has better balance than a FAL.

The FNAR won't fall off of table if the front half is sticking over the edge like a FAL, but there is some definite front heavy distribution on it. I mounted a bi-pod on it really put some front forward weight on it.

Don't get me wrong though, they are an absolutely fantastic range gun and long range SHTF solution. It gives the ability to engage multiple targets at range a bolt does not, but it's not a carry gun, unless you were going to bag it IMO.
