Early Winchester Model 88 Lever Gun With Extended Magazine
This is a first year 1963 Winchester Model 88 in .284 Winchester caliber. A short action cartridge that never caught on because it came out too early for the short action bolt craze. Pictured with it is an after market ten round magazine by Croydon, I think the name was. Anything shot with this cartridge would swear they got hit with a .270, or more specifically, a .280.
very nice old rifle and scope. is that a "vintage" Weaver? lee
It is a Weaver and it's been on the gun since 1964 when my dad traded a guy at work a Remington 30-06 semi-auto rifle for it. (You guys always seem to spot those Weaver scopes) I forgot the model but you know which one. Then my dad carried this gun for forty years hunting the west. Unfortunately it's been mine since 2008.
