I am pleasantly surprised by that. Is there an election coming any time in the near future?

Congrats to you guys in California!
Keep up the pressure, if you can keep Moonbeam from signing another gun law into place you never know what the future can bring.

Our democratic governor legalized suppressors after years of being legally able to own but not operate, that was a bit of a head scratcher as well. I think is possible that professional politicians do from time to time actually read what is put in front of them to sign and actually make a decision based on some form of logic rather than what their party would like them to do. Particularly in cases where they are not seeking reelection and are on the way out.

Yeah, but he signed the anti lead bullet ban into law. You never know what goes thru Moonbeams head.

Default Brown

It was once reported that Jerry Brown smoked Pot once. My theory was that he never exhaled.

When Jerry Brown was governor back in the '70s, a reporter asked him to characterize his philosophy of government. Brown, who is always partly a wiseass and partly irascible (both characteristics that I admire in public figures), barked back something like, "I believe in the canoe theory. You paddle a little on the left and then you paddle a little on the right. Stay off the rocks on either shore and everybody gets ahead."

Brown has never been the doctrinaire liberal that most of his detractors claim he is, and he has often annoyed his liberal supporters by taking positions more conservative than they wanted him to. Ask California Senate President pro Tem Darrel Steinberg, who sought to pass a bunch of gun laws even more restrictive than the ones passed earlier this year in New York, how liberal he thinks Jerry Brown is this morning. And read some of Brown's veto messages on the bills he just refused to sign. In those he sounds like the average common sense member of this forum.

If you characterize Brown with no more words than can fit on a bumper sticker, you will get him wrong. Whoever you are, wherever you live, and whatever your politics, Brown has at some point taken positions that you can wholeheartedly support, and he has also taken positions that will totally tick you off. Does that make him flaky or inconsistent? I say no. I say he just has more strings on his guitar than most people expect, and he can play them all effectively.

Basically I have liked this guy for more than 40 years even if he sometimes makes me want to beat my head against the wall. Usually a disappointing public figure makes me want to beat his head against the wall or, since I'm trying to be kinder and gentler as old age creeps up on me, maybe just adorn his face with a custard pie.

I recall some years back that guy I cannot stand, Darryl Steinberger who DCWilson mentioned above, wanted to legislatively have schools ask students if their parents had guns in the house. We are in dire straits in Ca. fiscally and we're building a train from one patch of nowhere to another that only jackrabbits and coyotes will ride. I believe Feinstein's husband got part of that contract. Cozy.
I live in Sacramento and once in a while I feel really stupid, then realize the wind shifted and I was down wind from the capitol.

I mailed seven letters and sent emails opposing the bills. I know that Brown doesn't read any of it. His staff reads the letters and just gives him a tally, but I'm sure one of my letters got to him. In opposing SB374, I included pictures in my letter of the hunting rifles that would have been banned; Winchester 1905, Winchester 100, Remington 1906, Remington 740, Browning BAR, etc. I asked that Brown look at the pictures. "Do these rifles have any military characteristics? Can any of these rifles remotely be called an assault weapon? SB374 is a punitive law designed to punish gun owners and create a new class of criminal; people who own hunting rifles, some of which have been available for over 100 years."

I would like to think that my letter was one of the few that were forwarded to Brown for him to read, and it helped influence him to veto this unjust, immoral Bill.

Like Jag, I sent Gov Moonbeam a few emails imploring he veto any and all gun control legislation that crossed his desk (also asked he dump Kamela Harris). While he didn't veto all, he did veto most and I sent him one more email last night thanking him doing doing so. He'll probably never see/read it but I sent it.
