Default Biggest Centerfire Rifle ... Interestesting

I didn't realize they even made this thing.

Worlds Largest Caliber Rifle In Action 905 - YouTube

SSK industries .905 is supposedly the biggest centerfire rifle ever made.

With a 2400 grain bullet, propelled by 240 grains of powder, the JDJ is comparable to a World War I-era tank round or a 20mm cannon in terms of kinetic energy.

Christmas is coming! It's now on my list along with the Barrett M107A1 .50 cal

I saw this earlier this year.
As long as there are human beings there will always
be one trying to build the biggest, fastest, etc.....
JDJ has been building wildcats with little or no
pupose for years IMHO. But if that's what flicks your Bic
then have at it.
There should be a thread: Guns with no purpose.
At least the shooter will never get a scope cut from that one.

Hmmm , anything over .50cal is considered a "destructive device" in the eyes of the BATF.

Knew someone who wanted to make a single shot rifle out of a surplus M61A1 Vulcan rotary cannon barrel. But he didn't know the 20mm ammo is electrically primed (24vDC).

I wonder what a set of reloading dies would set you back.

My, my, my...that thing needs to be mounted on a tracked vehicle. In a turret.

Just get a Lahti L-39 20mm. Unfortunately, the one I got to play with had been converted to 50Cal...

I owned .50BMG rifles for about ten years. Blasting random stuff on the range was some of the best times I've had with a firearm. It was hard to give up that caliber after being a heavy machinegunner for years. To fill that void I was considering building a custom .338LM or a tactical style .300WM. Once I saw an AR-15 pistol in person I decided to change gears and built a 10.5" with a muzzle brake. You get all the noise and excitement at a fraction of the cost...and it's a lot easier to get to the range on a motorcycle

These days I've rid myself of all the expensive toys. As much fun as that silly little AR is, it is still a serious and capable tool with real utility.

I guess "biggest" means different things to different people. I've seen 2 bore rifles which have bores over one inch.

I just wish the video would have shown the impact that gun would have on an object, like say a five gallon bucket full of jello.

If the over .50 caliber cartridge is chambered in a 'sporting firearm', the BATFE may at it's discretion allow the cartridge and it's sporting fiream to be made and possessed w/out the NFA D/Device lable, registration or tax.

That's were the .600 & .700 Nitro get to play. There's an entire field of extreme big bore enthusiasts out there making up sporting cartridges in the over .50cal sizes. .60, .70 & .80cal and even 1" bore size.

The 50BMG case is a very popular case to build on, necking it up, blowing it out straight and so on.
It's a handy 12ga base diameter, so it's easily made into a full length 12ga round,,even accepts the 2 3/4 plastic cases yet!
They sometimes mod the BMG case to add a brass rim to the previously rimless case.

Pick a caliber and they've probably made it and a rifle for it.
.585HE is popular with them. .70calibers,,the 505Gibbs blown out straight into a long .577.
About anything goes. Just keep it in a 'sporting rifle' and they seem to go happily along.
The reletively cheap Savage 210(?) bolt rifle is often used as a base. Even the NEF single shot(!).
A half box thru my .470 is enough for me,,

Ed Hubel is the brains and energy behind many of these projects. He posts regularly on different forums and provides detailed info on conversions, cases, dies, bullets, sabots, ect.
Always seems to be coming up with something new.
Search his name of his fav caliber 585HE and you can start to find a lot of big caliber info.
