That's a real good price and I paid more for my commander size version I bought a few weeks ago. I've a couple hundred rounds through mine with no problems and I think they are real nice guns especially for the money.
I've only owned Kimber 1911s so that's all I have to compare to but am real happy with mine. I'd buy another full size at that price too if I had the cash right now.

I have 3. They are great guns for the money. $600 is an excellent buy.

Excellent price. I paid more for mine but I would still like to have a commander size. So far it has performed as expected.

I have had one for over a year and I have been totally satisfied. For that price, I would get a Commander sized if they had it.

I have had a commander version for about six months. I have over a thousand rounds of 230 gr round nose and 200 gr SWC through it without a singe failure to feed or eject. Fit and finish are what you would expect from a much more expensive pistol. The pistol is an almost exact copy of the original Colt commander with the addition of a slightly larger thumb safety and beavertail grip safety. My pistol came from the factory with a good 4.5 lb trigger pull, and shoots two and a half to two three quarter inch 25 yd groups from a rest. This pistol is a great deal for the price. Best of all it only has the safeties that originally came on the 1911. It has none of the recent add on trigger safeties, that the lawyers were so fond off.

Purchased mine last year, but the Ruger devil got his hooks into me, so I left the LGS with two Rugers.
No complaints with either.

In 1911 land it's very well thought of for its price point.

A SR1911 for under $600 is a darned good bang for your buck. That's about the cheapest price I've seen on them since I bought mine in February for a whole lot more. Even at near $700, I felt it was good bang for the buck.

At $600 I'd be all over another one. They're very hard to get in Kalifornistan but I wound up with one at $800 OTD after shipping, fees & taxes and feel it was still a good bang for the buck. I've been extremely happy with mine.
It's an American made stainless 1911 with everything I want & nothing I don't. It's backed by some of the best CS in the business.
Buy it. I doubt you'll be sorry.
This is generally where the Kimber & Springer fanboiz chime in with "But for just a little more blah blah blah."

My wife has one, we paid 705 out the door. I'll second everything said above. She only has about 200 rounds downrange on it, but not a hiccup.

Now that everyone agrees it's a screamin' deal, if you still question it, go pick it up in your hand. Once I did, I knew I had to have it.

I've had one for a little more than a year now. Mine was $650.00 otd.
It's the best bang for the buck I've seen in 1911 land in many years.
While the Commander size seems popular with this group, they aren't for me. I carry plastique pistols, so the Gov't size is the only 1911 that interest me.

I bought one in September of 2012 and have over 5000 rounds through it without so much as a hiccup! The most reliable 1911 I own! Good price too...................I may have to buy another.

I've had one for 2 years now with over 2k rounds and it's been great. I did change out the black parts as I wasn't a big fan of the 2 tone look.

Nice looking gun without the silly two-tone stuff. I never did understand that and S&W has sure done its share of it so I am not just picking on Ruger.

Thank you Sir and I do agree. The 2 tone makes it look silly and cheap. Of course, this is just an opinion.

The one that Richard inquired about in the original post is the Commander model, just to clarify.

SR1911
The SR1911 is what I call Ruger Plus. This gun is solid, well built, flawless operation, uber tight action. Prices vary but whatever the acquisition cost it is worth every dollar. The 1911 oozes confidence in quality and performance. I bought mine sight unseen and no regrets.

I bought one nearly a year ago and love it. It's the only Ruger I've ever owned, … always wanted to buy one but had to wait until they found a designer with an appreciation for aesthetics - J.M. Browning. I have ~600 rounds through it with no problems. Very accurate. Well worth the $635 I paid for it at the time.

I sure wish they would bring one out in .38 super to go with my .45. As everyone has said, good solid guns, mine is very accurate.

about a year ago, i looked at a sr1911 and a para gi expert , about same price but the para had a slightly better trigger and i liked the business like appearance of the para so i got the para what a piece of garbage ! traded it for a win 97 and a fistful of cash.
a friend who bought the ruger is still happy with his purchase. i may still pick one up but the para kind of soured me on autos.

They're garbage. I can't believe anyone would waste their money on one. The design is old and outdated. Why not spend you money on a decent gun? Get a modern polymer gun, you'll be much happier.
1911s in general are worthless. They jam all the time and you have to baby them just to get through one magazine.
I figure with the love fest going on here someone had to post a negative comment. So what if I made it all up? They are not available in CA.

Yes they are. Took a long time & it was an offhand remark I made on this forum that led me to mine.
Look here. It explains Kalifornistan's Single Shot Exemption.
Single Shot Exemption Explanation/Database Thread - Calguns.net
More FFLs are actually doing SSE & I've been hearing of gun stores that actually have the Rugers in the case. Cost ya more. I paid $800 total OTD for mine. I understand they can be had for $700 nowadays if ya get lucky.

Yes, I'm aware of the SSE. However, the closest place that does it is at least 60 miles away. That's a 120 mile round trip that I'd have to take twice. Then, they charge $150 just for the privilege. Then they charge $50 for the transfer. So, do I want to pay an extra $200(not counting gas and time) for a $700 gun? Well, you can, but I won't.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot. The last guy that did that, at the closest place, was "delayed" by the DOJ. It took him more than two months just to get the gun. Then had to wait the additional 10 days before he could take it home.
No, I'll not be doing any SSE for a cheap gun.

Off topic but I loved my Para Ord P13. Worst sale I ever made.

You can't find the SR1911 in these parts though a pair showed up at the local Academy a couple months ago but I was too slow on the draw and they were bought out from under me. Of course they say they have no idea when or if they will ever get a another set and with Ruger's reported backlog who knows when I'll see them again.
