This Swedish mauser is like gold. It's the most accurate of all the military mausers too. I have quite a few of them.

These were made in Belgium and model FN49.
The Luxembourg was in 30-06, the venezulain was in 7mm mauser, the Egyptian was in 8mm mauser, the Argentine was in the rare 7,65x53 arg. And in 308 for the Argentine navy.
This rifle has an adjustable gas system that exhausts the excess gas away from the system so the more the gas port is open the less gas the system sees to operate it. These FN49 rifles are painted black not blued.

I love them all just like my s&w. This is where I started out. The Swedish mausers were manufactured with the quality Swedish steels. The Swedes made the best quality steels in the world even today. I believe the Swedes were the first ones to make the chrome moly steels.

If you search for "house of karlina" lots of info on the awesome Swedish mauser will come up.

My 1907 Swede Carl Gustaf m96 6,5mm mauser out shot some SWAT rifles at the range that had scopes. My Swede mauser had no scope. I shot tighter groups then they did at 100yds. Using new sellier &bellot 131gr so ammo. This 100+yo lady still can shoot.

The surplus military rifles and handguns are fun too.

I have a Swedish husqvarna m40 pistol in 9mm luger. It's heavy but it's awesome.

The Swedish ljungman husqvarna 6.5mm semi auto rifle is another jewel from Sweden.

The Swedish designed Egyptian hakim 8mm mauser and the Egyptian rasheed in 7,62x39 are related to the ljungman design wise. There brothers. The little Swedish designed rasheed is suppose to be the rolls Royce of the semi autos in 7,62x39 rifles.

There are so many different mausers to play with it would keep any collector busy for a lifetime. To me the south American mausers that we're manufactured in Germany are really Purdy. The Chilean and Brazilian mausers in 7mm mauser are very accurate besides being Purdy to look at.

Now in the unknown winter war of 1939 when the Russians invaded Finland they captured the Russian mosins and rebuilt them in the Finnish arsenal and shimmed them in the stock till they shot 1" moas at 100yds. These Finnish mosins are known for there accuracy. The Finns were out numbered but the accuracy of there rifles held the Russians back. Research the "Rifles of the White Death" lots of good reading there.

Don't underestimate the 91/30 mosin when it comes to accuracy too. Most of these right out of the box are very accurate too.

When Hitler seen the Finns give Russia a hard time during the war of 1939 he deceided to invade Russia figuring it would be a push over for his seasoned troops. He was dead wrong. The USA was sending Russia everything it needed to fight the Germans.

You might say we were the manufacturing might of the world. We were unmatched.

Default My Garands

I like Garands in many flavors. The first is a "correct" 1943 Winchester.

This is an original "as issued" and hard to find 6M Garand.

The is a custom built Garand using a 1938 4-digit receiver with the seventh round modification. The original configuration would have been a gas trap, but those are $$$$.

And lastly, here is my custom built Don McCoy 7.62 Match Garand. From another post ...

"An interesting thing about these match-grade 7.62 Garands. The most accurate of all of them were built by a former USN Pistol Team member. He shot pistol for many years and was pretty good at it. He was also on Ford Island in Pearl Harbor on the morning of Dec. 7, 1941 as a young 3rd class petty officer. Two years later, he was promoted to Chief Petty Officer. When he retired from the USN in the late '50s, he went to work as a mechanic for the government and soon ended up at the USN SAMCU. He worked very close with Charlie Frazier to learn
what really was needed to make the M1 Garand shoot virtually as good as the best bolt action match rifles of the day. His name is Don "Mac" McCoy. He sadly passed way on September 27, 2011."

Boy you got that right. I had to laugh.

Besides the M96 Swedish Mauser which are such fine shooters, especially with reloads the M38 short rifle is neat. Here is a Husqvarna. The stock is burnt and dented around the bolt from using a brass catcher in training.

The typical Swede bayonet.

Do Sharps count? I have a New Model 1863 rifle with a serial number that falls between one issued to CO "C" 6th Veteran Volunteer Inf (2 numbers off) and one issued to CO "G" of the same group (179 off). And a carbine that falls between two issued to CO "I" 1st MD VOL CAV. Rifle on top (someone shortened the fore end).

Here's a few. The background is plain but it's all I have at the moment. I have original slings, ammo pouches and other accoutrements, I'll have to re-shoot them one of these days. The No. 2 Mk. IV* AG Parker .22 Conversion Trainer is fun at the range, people think I got a squib when they hear the first round fire.

This thread appears to have opened the milsurp flood gates here at S&W Forum.

Here's a few of my recent finds.

Default Military rifles-got any?

1968: Navy Team M1 Garand converted to 7.62 NATO. Best shooter ever, wish I didn't have to return it when I left the Team.

Heres all I have left--I used to have 20 Mosin Nagants, a mis-matched 98 Mauser (which--along with my 42 dated Walther--were supposedly Stalingrad battlefield pick-ups), a so-called Tanker Garand, 3 Walther and Mauser P-38s, a ""Black Widow"" Luger, a Lee Enfield-mis-matched, two Lithgow Lee-EnfieldsGen Francis P. Hardaway's 42 Remington Rand 45, and probably a few others ive long forgot about.

All I have left that I have pics of are these:

Top is my 1935 made Mauser G-98 w/25 rd ansteckmagazin, bottom is my so-called "Philippine Contract Krag Carbine made in 1898.

Mausers came in several designations: A, G, K, & M--I dont know what the diffs are? Anyway, mines a G-98.

Just a Mosin Nagant M91/30. A 1943 Izhevsk.

Hard to beat a gun that you can get 440 rounds of ammo for $100.

Oh, and this Gewehr 98 action Chilean Mauser in 7.62x51 NATO.

That's the only picture I've got of it, though. Fun to shoot, but ammo is cheaper for the Mosin.

I'm down to two these days - an arsenal refurbished Lee Enfield No.4 Mk2 and a 1930 production Swiss K11. I don't shoot either as much as I used too, but they're fantastic rifles.

And look at the K11! It's gorgeous!

Beautiful! I have one also with a receiver date 1912, of course in caliber 6.5 mm. I have had it for many years and it is in very good condition(maybe because Sweden stopped going to war). I have 2-20 round boxes of ammo, one by Herters and one box of completely non-descript handloads. The handloads use a 6.5mm bullet with the crimp groove way out from the case neck.

I finally shot this rifle this week when the sun came out. It was 100yd range so I used the tiny notch rear sight. I am visually challenged but I put 4 of 5 shots in the 8" bull. Fun.

I have no pix but own 1898 Krag, Springfield 1903, 1917 30-06, M1 Garand, M1 30 carbine and M1A1(which I shoot the most).

At one time I had about 50 Mosins of all varieties and nationalities around here. A week or two ago, I took the last 9 over to Rock Island Auction and put them on consignment over there. I've spent, and will spend, the proceeds on other stuff that I'll actually play with; e.g. new ham radio antennas and equipment. My kid will still end up with more guns than he probably wants when I kick off, and until then I've still got my 3 SHTF AKs and a couple of well-used and loved Smiths and a Springer 1911 for use against things that go bump in the night.

I have but one that I received as a gift from an old friend. All numbers matching except for the rod witch I am told is common because it required two to clean the bore so they had to be shared.
1912 Austrian Steyr in 7MM. I can hit a milk jug with it at 100 yards all day long.

Acco40, I did not know that Don McCoy passed away. He was a master. He went through this M1 for me that was purchased through the old DCM program. He did a tech inspection, replaced a few springs, smoothed the trigger, tightened the gas cylinder and installed an NM rear sight aperture back around 2002.

Here are a couple -

The Springfield Armory M1A technically isn't an M14, but close enough. The M1A Garand is a CMP Special Grade, that was purchased from them a couple of years ago. The last is an M1 Garand with a custom forged receiver, that's set up for high power rifle competition. It has a Redfield Palma rear sight, and a Redfield Olympic front sight. It's a sub-MOA shooter.
