Just bought a Girsan 1911. Really good price. I have not shot a 1911 since boot camp and that was a long time ago. The gun seems to be getting good reviews on various sites. I think it's a good way to learn how to tinker with them as opposed to spending $600-$1200 for a really good one and messing it up. The Girsan looks good and seems to have decent workmanship (according to my limited knowledge). It is the blued model with the rail. My question is....Is the feed ramp supposed to be blued? I thought it was supposed to be shiny (polished ). Any help here from you 1911 guys?

There is no "rule" on feed ramps.
If Girsan blued it, it's okay because blueing doesn't interfere with reliable chambering.

I polish every feed ramp on every new 1911 that has blue or nickel on it.
I just polish it enough to only remove the finish. Even the park finish n the ramp gets removed.

I've seen the jhp bullets nose dive into the ramps with the finish on them.
The finish acts like a brake. We can't see the machine marks under some of the finishes too.

How do you polish it?
BTW. I ordered a FO front sight for it from Dawson Precision. Should get it in a couple of days. I'm going to the local gun shop and have them install it. Only $10. At the same time I'll ask them about the feed ramp.
