Default Revolver caliber rifles

Picked this Marlin .41 Mag. up a couple weeks ago. I noticed some threads about these and remembered I saw a few at my LGS over a year ago. I now have this one. Serial # dates it to 1984. The J.C. Higgins 4X scope came with it, and it has the JM stamp on the barrel. Has a little flaking at the butt of the stock , but the wood is OK.

Think they're quite popular in the UK - when handguns were banned, you could carry on where you left off using the same ammunition, reloading dies etc., but with a rifle.

I see you bagged a .41 mag. well done they seem quite hard to find. I know the .44 mag needs bigger than standard size bullets, and I wonder if your .41 will also. The .44 needs a .433 bullet. The standard size is .429. It will shoot the smaller ones but they will "key hole " in the target,if yours does it too, you will know there is a problem. It has something to do with the micro groove barrel and is a well known issue with Marlins. They seem to do good with factory loads, but reloads are not so good. I have been getting my bullets from the Bullet works in Breckenridge Texas, he will make whatever you need. Just give him a call he is very knowledgable and helpful, his name is Jim Mitchell. Good luck with your new rifle, and lets hear a range report.
Jack

Jack, Thanks for that info. I have some factory Remington 210 gr. SP and Herter's 190 gr. lead RN . I got the Herter's at a gun shop that was closing. I'll try both and see how they shoot.

It was less than $1000. A few hundred less. Are they bringing that much ?

That is a minimum from what I've seen.

I have a model 57 S&W that could use a mate like that.

So far I've been making do with an 1894 Marlin in 44 mag.

Nice find as I too would love one to go with my .41 mags.
While not a revolver cartridge I have a Ruger carbine in .40 S&W and it's matching pistol which share the same magazines. Good combo I enjoy.
I'd love to find some lever actions to match some of my handguns but afraid to make that step as my buddies that own levers have gone nuts buying them.

Nice 41 mag.

I have a 16" carbine in .357. The same loads I get 1200 fps out of my revolver, I get 1650 fps. out of the carbine.

Default My Combo is

S&W 460.... and a Ruger #1. Only made the Ruger for a couple of years. I have only shot a doe with the #1 but it was an impressive wound and DRT.

The last one I saw in person the asking price was firm @ $1250 with a burris pistol scope.

Been thinking about getting one in .44 mag/spl and use it for Deer/Varmint hunting. Then I would love to match that with a 5" 629 :-) I feel that would be really really nice..
Beautiful gun though! I am jealous

I have a Marlin 1894C (.357, Plus P, .38 SPL)

and a Ruger 77/357 (.357, Plus P, .38 SPL)

(Manufacturers' pix)

The Marlin handles .38 caliber cartridges better than the Ruger. The shorter .38 cartridges tend to have wandering rims within the extra space in the rotary magazine.

Aperture sight on the Marlin, 3-9 X 40 on the Ruger.

I like them both.
