Winchester 64
Wondering if there are any Winchester guys on here that could help me with a 64 I recently purchased.
I picked this 64 up from an acquaintance that was moving and had no use for it. It dates to 1955 but I can't figure out if it was some type of commemorative model or other. It is a really good shooter but I can't figure out if the gold colored accents were added or from factory.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

VERY doubtful it is FACTORY, but there were some "Special Request" rifles in that period - more on length of bbl and wood.

I have collected and studied old Winchester for 5 decades now, so I have acquired a working knowledge on many models. As TOM said, VERY doubtful Winchester plated the parts. Winchesters custom shop at this period of time was taking custom orders for only high dollar, highly engraved guns. I don't ever recall plating of parts as a Winchester option. Most likely its previous owner had the work done after he acquired the rifle. Another glaring point is, no other work was done. Custom work was usually done on the deluxe grade guns. I was the worlds worst, in my younger days, at modifying old guns. I have since seen the error of my ways. Somewhere out in the world is an early Ruger Super Blackhawk with a 4" barrel and gold plated trigger and hammer I built for my brother, at his request (I think he was a pimp in an earlier life). The owner might be trying to identify it as a factory custom gun as we speak.
