My sister gave me that same knife many years ago. I think Brookstone carried them. At first I was leery of it because of the lack of a guard but I started using it and it's been a great knife--it's dressed deer, hogs, all manner of small game and fish with never a problem. And the steel is about the best stainless I've seen as far as sharpening and edge retention. It's a very practical tool and has seen a lot of use in my hands.
The designer Tapio Wirkala is a very interesting man.

Mine came from Brookstone many years ago. I had no idea I was buying a collector's piece. It rode around in a motorcycle tank bag for many years, and came out usually around a campfire, to do whatever knives do around campfires.
The Cold Steel Finn Bear is an inexpensive homage.

My first attempt at gun porn. If the sun was out it would have helped.

I call this my dream knife, not because I always wanted one but because I had it with me in a dream and a week later I saw it at a gun show.
It's a Valor 373 and I just found out that it's a rare collectible and worth a pretty penny.

"Puukko" is Finnish for "knife", puukos are generally accepted as 3-4" blades, Scandi-ground, no guard @ the hilt, (some may have the finger groove like mine). "Pukka", IIRC, is a generally British term for "genuine" or "high end", (it's been too long since I watched any Jimmy Stewart to remember the Harvey reference). For shouldazagged, check out Kellam Knives &/or Lamnia. Kellam is an importer, (Florida??), and Lamnia is kinda the Finnish version of Cabela's. Thanks for the compliments!

Thanks, but a high school classmate who has lived in Finland for over thirty years (and says they spell it with two K's, both of them pronounced) gave me a magnificent puukko made by Juka Hankkala, who is regarded as one of the top Finnish bladesmiths.
If I can get my new camera to upload pictures I'll post them. Hankkala made the whole thing, including a two-tone leather sheath so well fitted that the knife audibly clicks into place.

I will definitely bow to greater experience, I've just barely gotten around to calling my rifle a Sock-O, though people look @ me like something is growing out of my forehead when I do

Not sure if it is mammoth or not. The fellow I got it from didn't know either. I sure like the little knife though it also has some very neat file work on it.
