I recently bought one of these used DAOs in .40 that are cropping up as surplus on the online auctions etc. (I believe mine was issued by a prison.) It conceals well in a generic Tagua IWB holster, is comfortable to carry, recoil is minimal, will feed anything I tried in it, and feels good in the hand especially with Hogue Handall that I added. I got it and three mags for less than $300 including shipping & FFL fees.

The horrible double action only trigger requires some getting used to though! (No, it doesn't feel like a double action revolver. ) The sights are smaller than I'm accustomed to also. The capacity is 11+1.

For the price,if you are willing to REALLY practice with it and learn it, I'd recommend it without reservation. However, expect to train a lot to get to the point where that trigger is familiar enough for controlled rapid fire. I'm an old dog and you what they say about us and new tricks!

Overall, it'll rate a place in my off duty carry rotation after some more range time........

That is cheap. When you say the trigger is nasty, is it especially heavy, gritty and/or long? Does it torque a lot? Some say rotating barrel autos do that a lot.

The trigger is VERY long making it difficult to control smoothly. Again, with practice I think it could be mastered. It is so different from anything else that switching back and forth between this and ...let's say .... a 1911 or a Glock would not be terribly easy. I carried a Sig P220 .45 for over a decade. The first shot (double action) was considerably shorter & easier to handle than this Beretta.
