I recently bought an O1991 .45 with a 5" barrel. Most but not all of the spent shells have a dent. The gun has only been fired 64 times. The dent isn't as bad as it looks in the pic. Some are very slight and some look like the picture and some aren't marked at all. Could this be just not broke in. Shooting mainly Blazer Brass and HPR 230 grain JHP's. All 230 grain. It feeds and ejects great and piles them in one area. Very accurate as well. Just wondering if any of you know why this is.
Thanks for looking,
Gordon
That is normal on a stock 1911. Most customized guns are reshaped in the area that the brass hits on the slide as it is ejected to minimize that dent. Heavier loads make a larger dent and a slightly heavier spring will reduce the dent on those loads. Dave
The 01991 is not known to dent empties the way the old 1911 did as the ejection port is opened up a little more. That said, I do not think it will hurt anything.
You can get the straight answer by contacting Brent at the Colt Custom Shop. Send him your picture, and if he thinks it is a problem, he will give you further instructions.
