Very enviable.......
I've seen a couple of Camp Perry's but never had a chance to shoot one. What are the chances to find one with a King front sight? I wish I travelled in your circle. You never see anything like those in my parts. I do however have a Bullseye Match Target, but not decked out by King. Here are my 2 nicest examples of my small Colt collection.

Nice. An 8" Camp Perry is a good place to start.
PS: You're not the only one:
Top Row: 44 HE target, K-38, K-32, K-22, 32 HE target, 22/32 target
Bottom: 44 New Service target, 38, 32 & 22 Officers Model targets, 32 & 22 Police Positive targets

I do have a Colt 1917 that belonged to my Grandfather. Very nice gun, priceless because my dad gave it to me and it belonged to my granddaddy.

You know what is is silly of me. It just occurred to me that I did a whole lot of trading and got this Colt recently too:
My view on colt collecting is to just buy a few of the very best and neatest colts they ever made, then be done with them. I figure that if I have the best colts then any lesser colt I come across will hold no power over me. For example, what woodsman could possibly ever be better for me then this one?

It's very hard to beat a Colt customized by such an iconic company like King Gun Sight. I would love to have just one.....
After I posted the 2 above it dawned on me that I do own a customized Colt. I have this one by Jim Clark, done in 1966 on a Colt .38Spl Kit.

Hey, a Gold Cup got me out of a speeding ticket, once!
The funniest thing I took from the NRA show last weekend was from the "Colt Competition" booth. All they had were insanely expensive AR-15s there. One of them was $2,800 and they had a 3-shot group 100-yard target sitting by it that was supposed to be worthy of a $2,800 Ar-15.
It was 1.6". It even said next to it "1.6" group at 100 yards".
I told the guy; "You shouldn't have this target up here. If they aren't through the same hole - especially with a fancy target rifle - you're doing something wrong."
He just looked at me like a deer in the headlights.

Simple really. State Trooper had me dead to rights. I was on his radar going 72 in a 55. He asks me for my license and registration, so I hand him my license and carry permit.
Trooper: "Why do I need this?"
Me: "Because my registration is in the glove box - along with a loaded pistol - and when I open the glove box, I don't want you drawing down on me."
Trooper: "Okay, I appreciate you telling me, since I don't need any more surprises today"
Me: "So what do you want me to do, hand you the pistol?"
Trooper: "No, just hand me the registration and don't touch the pistol"
Me: "Okie dokie" (so I lean over and open the glove box)
Trooper: "Is that a Colt?"
Me: "Yes it is"
Trooper: "Gold Cup?"
Me: "Yes, National Match, 70 Series"
Trooper: "Can I hold it?"
Me: "Will it get me out of a ticket?"
Trooper: "Yep"
Me: "You can hold it all you want"
He made himself at home in my passenger seat, I unloaded it and handed it to him, and we talked about Colts for 20 minutes. Turned out that he was one of Uncle Sam's Misguided Children, as well. Good guy.

Really, that's pretty good engraving. Most engraved guns I look at make me recoil in horror at what was done to that poor gun, not so with this one.
Plus, ropers? They make any gun great.

I don't know, Mr. Strumpet. I kind of prefer the factory stocks, to tell the truth. That's a beautiful gun.

One of these days need to get pictures of my Father's 6 inch 1939 New Service in .357 that took a trip to Kings for sights and action job.......it was a duty gun for a young patrolman on his Indian motorcycle...... also served as his centerfire target pistol in the Pittsburgh Pistol League into the mid 60s.

Tell you what, why don't you sell it to me and I'll go ahead and take some pictures of it
(seriously though, that's one heck of an awesome family heirloom, your father clearly knew what was what)

I too have my eye on a Colt. It's my 89 yr old father in law's 1939 38 Police Special. It belonged to his father who was in law enforcement in Coral Gables, Fl before his death in 1947. I got to see the gun and shoot it in March and found out it was the first time it had been fired in over 50 years. He kept it in a shaving kit in his closet for "self defense." When we went to the range, he couldn't hit the target at 5 yds so I suggest that he might want to consider not using it for SD until he took a lesson and got some practice. I also strongly suggested that I would take good care of it and keep it in the family but he ignored this suggestion and it went back in the shaving kit when I left FL and returned to VA. It is a great pistol and folks on this forum and on the Colt forum provided info on it. I'm awaiting my letter from Colt which I intend to give my FIL for his 90th birthday in Sep. Bottom line, I can understand your fondness for Colts. I want one!

Sixgun
I've posted this many times before......I ask my Dad why he didn't just get a S&W RM.......... his answer was the Colt even w/ the trip to Kings..... was only about $55 vs. the $62 for the RM.
$7 was big bucks in 39 for a 22 year old patrolman!!
The gun will go to my eldest along with the family stories......the Colt also spent a couple of summers in Alaska w/ me it the late 70s........
Edit; Sixgun not that it would ever be for sale...... but I've always wondered what it would be/is worth as a collectable.. not that it is one of a kind but pretty close I'd think...
I'd rate it "very good+" 80-85%...... any thoughts on fair market value?????

Depends on what King did to it really. The short action, cockeyed or ambidextrous hammer, super target rib, mirror sight, etc.
Basically the price goes up the more King did to it usually. I've been after King guns for the past year and a half and the prices are sort of all over the place. It seems like the market for them is highly dependent on where you sell it, and who sees it.
Without knowing what was done to it I can say if have seen similar guns with just the sights at around the $600 mark. Full super targets with all the bells and whistles for about $2200.

Sixgun ..... thanks......for the info.....
Adjustable rear and mirrored front with the square red insert..... "polished the action"/ "action job" but I think everything else is original......1939 duty gun. Wish I'd asked more questions when I had the chance....... It was a gun I must have seen everyday ......Dad had the luxury of coming home for lunch or dinner......gunbelt would come off and get laid on the dining room table........
LOL I do have the box!!!!!
Every once in awhile I'll do a search for info...... don't see many .357s and the few I've seeen are stock...........

I expect the box adds to it. Thing is that I suspect trying to sell that you could pretty easily get $650 ish for it, maybe up through $850 with that box. But, I don't watch the colts as close as the S&Ws. Also, I think in the coming years that these guns will climb as more people get into King collecting.

Here's my Colt .32 Officers Model-Roper front sight,Sanderson grips and possibly a King hammer. I shot it last weekend and it shoots as good as it looks.

Hey all,
Sorry for the thread drift but this post has some relevance for me this week...
I have an opportunity to buy an unfired .38 Spl and a .22 LR Officers Model Match. Both are in the box with the .38 having the target, sight tool and warranty card and "shooting tips" document. The .22 has the wax paper and the sight tool only but both have the original boxes with them....$2200 for the pair. Both are unfired! The .38 dates from 1959/1960, the .22 from 1957... Any thoughts? Greatly appreciated !

King, like the front sight. It's quite good, and in fact it seems to be the same blade as the king blades for my S&Ws.

Here's a couple 1903 Model Ms. The first letters as factory engraved with factory pearl stocks. The second letters to the O.S.S.

Love the Super Match! Here's the brother to it!

Got some new pictures of the gun that I like with the correct grips on there:
By "correct" I mean not correct, but I think you know what I mean.

Man alive, yours is gorgeous.
You need to find some Ropers for it though

There are some beautiful guns on this thread, but it's almost five years old. I wouldn't put too much stock in the prices quoted.

Hahah, I didn't realize that.
I've been busy lately, kind of lost track of how long ago I bought these guns. That's crazy.
I will agree with you, in particular I said:

I hate to say that I think I was right...

A Colt Officers Model with ROPER sights. Sanderson grips and
a cockeyed hammer. To me the hammer was crafted for a left hand shooter but the grips are for a right hand shooter.
