Default BRNO #1

I don't have one. I want one. Found one...and only one...so far after several years of searching. It was at the Wannamacher Show three years ago. The seller would not budge an inch from his price that was about $100 too high. All I wanted was $75 off, but nope, he would take it home before he moved a bit. So I let him take it home. Took about a month to regret letting it get away even at the jacked up price. Have not found another like it. I see ****** ones priced too high, but no nice ones at any price. And I have yet to find another deluxe model like the one I let slip away. All I see are standard models in bad shape. I would consider a standard model in good condition but haven't seen one. Would prefer the deluxe model but zip on that one.

Getting too old for this.

I feel your pain! A few years ago I had a chance to buy a Brno #5, but I didn't know enough then to grab it quick! I did get the ZKW465 in 22 Hornet though!

I bought a BRNO #1 and #2 at an estate sale this year. They belonged to a benchrest shooter. He had the number 2 set up for benchrest shooting. It had an aluminum plate screwed into the front sling swivel stud hole. I was able to get the two correct swivels for it when I bought the gun. The number 1 was made in 1950 and the number 2 was imported in 1987.

The previous owner had modified the triggers and sears on both guns. I replaced the sear on the number 2 with an adjustable one from DIP. I also replaced the striker springs in both as well as a lighter trigger spring in number 2.

Both guns had problems due to his modifying the internals. The model 2 would fire 2 or 3 times, then have a light primer strike and not fire again. When the safety was manually disengaged to take a shot, the trigger would engage. This happened with both guns. You had to very carefully push the safety off so the gun would not fire. I was able to fix the number 2 but have not fixed the number 1 yet. It needs a new sear.

The modifications that were made were ok for benchrest shooting but not for hunting/plinking. Both triggers were very smooth and light. The triggers were both breaking at a little over a pound with no creep.

I like both rifles. They are shooters. They have been taken care of during their lifetime. The bolts are very smooth and the triggers are very nice. Both are wearing Leupold 6x18's.

Here are some pics of the number 1. It is the standard model.

I found a #2 at the Dallas Market Hall show over a year ago and spent the better part of a day trying to work a trade/ dicker with the owner. He wouldn't budge a penny, wanting $500 cash. I passed that Saturday on it, despite it being in really nice shape with a 4x Japanese scope on it. After lunch on Sunday (I was sitting with a friend at his table that weekend) he walked over and offered it to me for $475. I took it home and the squirrels and rabbits in my orchard quiver when I carry it outside. It is probably the most accurate rifle I have ever owned and shoots any ammo I stick in it, especially HP shorts. I justified it by selling all my other .22s.
