In a moment of weakness I responded to a Cold Steel "Special Projects" email that their 1917 Bowie seconds were available for eighty bucks. They normally sell them for $199, but Amazon has non-seconds for about $120 so it wasn't really a screaming deal. But, what the hell....

It showed up today. I honestly can't tell why its a "second".

My crappy pictures don't do it justice. Those are reflections off the perfectly blued steel. It looks like Colt Royal Blue.

The blade is 12 1/2 inches, 1/4" thick, and it came razor sharp. For scale it is near a very large and unimpressed Rottweiler.

The sheath is nice leather, with a metal end cap. The main sheath is removable from the hanger part so you could just stuff it in your belt if you are so inclined.

The handles are some kind of dark dense reddish wood, secured with screws. They don't budge. The knife is full-tang. I doesn't say China on it anywhere - there aren't any markings on it at all. Even if its Chinese I'll tip my conical hat to them. They make a nice knife.

The best part is that I have no earthly use for it. Its nice to have if I ever do.

According the video below, I can use it to stab meat, chickens, coins, rolled up Japanese mats, and junk cars.

We have never been disappointed with anything we have ever bought from Cold Steel. Their Special Forces Shovel is literally in the top 5 of the best purchases an values I have ever made. Shovel, hatchet, axe, hammer, all in one. Amazing tool. We have one in the back of every vehicle.

I totally agree! I have one of those shovels in my work ride.

That is a nice looking knife, congrats.
I have never owned any Cold Steel knives (yet) but I have handled many and have always felt that they were well made.

Awesome knife! I have a Cold Steel Pro Guard that I love.

Indulge me for a couple more photos. Randy the Rottweiler didn't work too well as a scale:

Its really more of a short sword:
