I like to hear from any of you that have experience with one of the Hungarian(FEG) Hi-Powers. I'm considering getting one as a shooter but if they're breakage prone or have other issues I realy like to know about it in advance.

The single action autos are good to go. some parts from FN hipowers like the extractors will interchange. I believe FEG no longer makes this gun. I had one years ago and it shot well and had a better trigger pull than any factory hipower that I owned.

I have one but haven't shot it for a few years. Seemed to work fine and nothing broke, and the trigger was much better after the magazine disconnect was removed. Hope this is helpful.

I have never owned one of the high power clones (FEG) but I do know two guys that have them and they both like them and have not had breakage with the guns.

I have one and never had any issues

No breakage concerns at all. Generally have the humped feedramp, with its issues.

Not finished as well, but work fine. Like older 1911's, work best with ball ammo, but that can be cured. Less than half the price of a new Browning, if you must have that, but I'm a name brand guy, don't want an FEG or some other clone. It's your money, I'm not rich, but I'll save or trade foolishly, loosing money every time. Stoopid

I've got Hi Powers of several nationalities - Belgian, Belgian/Portuguese, Argentine and Hungarian, with another FN (ex-Israeli) on its way to my FFL from Cole's Distributing in Kentucky. My FEG PJK-9HP is one of my favorites. Fit as good and finish maybe better than a Browning. I've shot thousands of rounds through it with barely a hiccup, although as noted above, it and most of the pre-Mark III pattern guns work best with ball ammo.

Some years ago, a guy named JayPee on the Hi Power sub-forum of the 1911 Forum started a blog called "Decoding the FEG Hi Power" which, in a series of lengthy posts, records just about everything known to (non-Hungarian) man about the FEG Hi Powers. I believe the online blog is down, but its contents have been published by JayPee through Amazon. Here is a link to the Hi Power Forum that tells you how to get it. Decoding the feg hi-power now available in print - 1911Forum I strongly recommend it to anyone interested in the subject. Suffice it to say that there were numerous variants, the earliest of which were strict clones of the FN/Browning guns and fully interchangeable with them. These are the most desirable, and it's what I've got.

When I get home, I can post a couple of pics of my favorite FEG.

BTW, FEG went out of the gun business back in the early 2000s, so these guns have become more and more rare. I saw a NIB example of the early-model PJK-9HP go for over $500 recently. I'm still a little sorry I didn't get it.

I have a P9R, which looks like a High Power clone and feels a lot like one in the hand, but is really a DA/SA, ala Smith 59. It's a nice gun, if not as nicely finished as a HP, and it has been reliable for me. I'd have to pay three or four times as much for a HP, which I would gladly do if I had the money, but for the money, I have no beefs with this gun.

I had the PJK 9hp, it was a great gun. Shot approx 5k through it, had MMC sights installed, extended safety and mag disco/ trigger job. I was fool and sold it, can't even remember what motivated that decision.
Frame and slide are 4140 steel, according to Don Kassnar....apparently a decent enough gun for folks like Bill Laughridge to build on.

Here's my PJK-9HP referred to above. I bought it off GB for $350 a few years ago. Whoever had it before me had the Trijicon front and Novak rear sights installed, then apparently put it away and didn't shoot it. It came in the box with little no evidence of having ever been fired, and the spare mag still in the factory wrapper. I had a Cylinder & Slide sear and "no-bite" hammer installed by a good smith, who got the trigger pull down to a nice and crisp 4lb, actually a little less than I'd want to carry. Not that it's likely I'll be carrying anytime soon here in the People's Republic.

They came with a pretty damn nice bluing on them too.

I have an FEG PJK-9HP that is quite a good gun. Shoots great, only complaint is it doesn't fit my hand as well as a Beretta does...but I can't fault the gun for that.

I've had two, and liked them both. They would feed anything I put in them, and they were reasonably accurate. The first I traded to my dad for a Mini-14, and the second I sold after I bought a real BHP. While the finish is not quite as nice as the real thing, it's a lot better than most of the bluing you see today. They're a quality gun, in my opinion.

I concur with all the positive comments above. I did hear that the FEG extractors were sometimes prone to slip (something about the way they were cut) so I changed mine out for a Browning version. I have a lot of HPs and clones. (Okay, the number is 8, but who is counting?) The blue on my FEG puts my 69C Browning to shame! I think you will be happy with your new pistol.

I have one of the original HP style FEG's as well, and the fit and finish is first rate, just as nice as my real HP. That said, they made three basic versions - the early one that is a direct copy of the HP, a second, later SA version that looks like the first, but employs a lock up similar to a 3rd gen. S&W auto, and lastly a model that is SA/DA. The first usually has the nicest finish, and is most close to the original HP.

Feg made good stuff. Former boss had one their Hi-Powers and it worked just fine.

The first version is the Hi power clone=PJK-9HP. Factory or aftermarket HP mags and parts will fit in those. I bought a PJK-9HP a few months ago and it has been great for the most part. The fit and finish seem absolutely great to me, but I don't have a real Browning/FN Hi Power to compare it to. Mine just recently starting having some FTE problems so I plan a disassemble of the slide and that might lead to replacing the extractor and maybe the extractor spring. Mine is just a range toy, but I hated the baby safety lever so I installed a C&S extended safety (non-ambi).

On Sunday I shot it and it started to act up with the FTE issue so I gave more attention to everything else I brought with me on my Eastern Bloc range day (VZ2008, CZ82, CZ75 SP01, FEG PA63 and the PJK-9HP).
