Hi:
My nephew from Texas came to visit and brought a "Hi Point" 9mm Pistol.
At the range he wanted me to shoot it. HEAVY trigger pull and a "PEEP SIGHT" for a rear sight ??
I have heard of "Hi Point" but never seen one.
Opinions ?
Thanks,
Jimmy

I hear they operate better if you hold them sideways, like it came in the box.

I apologize now.

That's so funny that I'm actually going to delay my previously planned wise acre comment for later.

My favorite dealer sells these pistols by the bucketful to "bargain oriented" clients. The lifetime warranty is a big selling point.

Thank you, I'll be here all week.

I was going to make a comment about the "bargain oriented clients" and the" lifetime warranty", but that wouldn't be appropriate.

I bought one used very cheap. It had extractor problems and a slightly bent firing pin. I called hipoint and because the warranty follows the gun not the owner they sent all new parts and springs. It is big. It is bulky. I will not ccw this thing. But it is fun to shoot at the range and eats any ammo I feed it. They come with 2 sights, ghost ring and normal adjustable 3dot.

I'm not gonna say it's the best pistol in the world or that I own but I do have friends who have income problems and this hipoint will defend there home if needed.

After the new parts I do trust this thing. A few thousand rounds later and it still shoots straight.

At the price I got it for, none of my friends/family that shoots it at the range complains

I used to have one. I shot that silly thing more than any other single firearm I've ever owned, with the possible exception of a couple of 22's. I had a half dozen malfunctions, with four of those coming out of one box of reloaded ammo.

I never really thought they were big. Side by side with a Kel-Tec P-11, and a Bulgarian Makarov I had at the same time, the Hi-Point wasn't much bigger. Concealing it wasn't out of the question (The .40 and .45 are much bigger however), but unless it was all I had, it wouldn't be my first choice.

But IF it was all I had, I wouldn't have been concerned about it at all.

I never really "cleaned" it. Spray it off with gunscrubber or WD-40, push a hunk of paper towel through the barrel with a pencil, and call it good. It was.

One other thing. When I got bored with it, and sold it, I got almost what I paid for it. Not a bad deal at all.

interestingly enough I have not seen one jam. They are heavy, bulky, and ugly. Just not my cup of tea.

Ugly as the north end of a southbound chimp, but by all accounts they work. I always assumed they were complete junk until I started reading comments about them here.

I'm not saying that guns have to be expensive to be good, but I'm suspicious of anything that looks as cheap as it is.

'SC Mike' nailed it!

I own one as well. Its a good gun for the price. It is big, bulky and heavy, but it does the job...

Only issues that people really run into with these guns is the magazines. The feed lips on the mags need to be adjusted on some guns to ensure reliable feeding...

Other than that, they seem to work really well....

My nephew has one. It is heavy as it is a true blowback design so it needs the mass to counter recoil. I have fired it and could get used to one. Built in Mansfield, Ohio with transferable lifetime warranty. He did not have much money and my LGS told him he would not regret it and he hasn't. Works as advertised.

Reminds me of when I first got into mountain biking. My buddies and I were "bike snobs" with our custom modified bikes, I built mine from the frame up and we used hi-end gear. We laughed at and made fun of people that rode Huffies.
Until we were all humbled by "Huffy Bob" on a cross country bike tour. He left us and our fancy gear in the dust.
After that we kinda figured that if it gets people off their butts and riding, then that's a good thing.
That's kinda the way I'm getting to feel about Hi-Points.
If it gets people out and shootin', then that's a good thing.

I have one and our son has one (both in 40 cal). They are big, heavy, ugly, and cheap; but they go bang every time you pull the trigger. We leave them in our pickups as a throw down gun. We all have Shield 9mm for our carry guns.

Had one in .40 SW for me and .380 for the wife. They flat out work. The 40 shot so-so but the .380 was as good at the range as my buddies Berreta. Great gun to leave in your old pickup. Ugly?? why yes they are. However the bullet coming out the end can't tell if it came out of a pretty gun or not. I really like that they are 100% US made. Sold both for near what I paid and I am now sticking to N-frames and Colt 1911's. If I needed a home defense or beater and money was a driving factor I would trust them to do the job.

Never handled or shot one, but I understand the carbines are really neat: accurate up to way out there and reliable.

Reaming a .40 Hi-Point to 10mm to make a (very) poor man's 10mm has been on my bucket list.

There isn't a better new handgun for under $200 out there. Imagine if there was no Chinese gun ban? Clones of these would be $50 OTD!
