Default Hi Point firearms quality question

I have never had the opportunity to fire one of these. How do they rate quality & reliability wise?

They are ugly as sin. But for the most part they work well.

Their service is excellent.

I wouldn't carry one. But for the price, they are great plinkers.

Their carbines are also well made and are very popular around here anyway.

Yep as KP said above. They are not for me but they work. They are simple blowback operation. My LGS sells a lot of them, No problems. If there is th CS is great.

I have one in .45 ACP, will feed any kind of round with no problems.

My objection is to the design, not the quality.

There's a reason why there have been VERY few "successful" pure blowback handguns chambered for anything more powerful than .380acp.

In order for such designs to operate in a safe manner, they need HUGE slides or bolts with a LOT of mass, or monstrously powerful recoil springs.

Hi Point went the huge slide route. That makes them ugly, and more importantly, heavy and unwieldy.

They don't do anything I want done in any way I want it done. I'd take a used Walther P1 to one any day.

My nephew has a c9 that refuses to fail. I own a 995ts carbine in 9mm that is a joy to plink with. Yes they are ugly but they work. Lifetime, no question warranty. If you are on a budget, they are a good value.
Hope this helps.

They are, like me, ugly enough to stop a sundial, but I've never heard anyone who owned one complain of a failure. Ever. I wouldn't mind having one for a second house gun, though I'd never carry the beast.

I'd really like to own one of the carbines in 9mm or .45 ACP.

Every time I read about Hi Point guns being ugly I've always wondered how many of those people carry plastic pistols. I believe that is what grannie was talking about when she would talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Flame on. Larry

A friend of mine bought one. It was the cheapest she could find. Didnt ask me first. We took it to the range and it worked just fine. Has adjustable sights and they were right on at 50 feet. If you need a cheap gun, I guess it is OK.

There is ugly and then really ugly and heavy.

They say not to disassemble the carbines as they are tricky to put back together. If you send it to the company they will clean them for free, (of course you paid to mail it)

To me the Mossberg 464 SPX is about as ugly as you can get!! A true FrankenGun

Every hi point handgun that has been brought regularly to my IDPA matches has eventually failed. One took about 1 1/2 years, but the slide broke during a match.
Company fixed every one, no charge.
Most people who stayed with IDPA bought a Glock or M&P for IDPA.

I have a Hi-Point 9mm carbine. It's crudely made, rough, ugly and heavy. It has never failed to fire and at under 100 yards, it will hit what you are aiming at. It's loads of fun to shoot and I would not hesitate to use one for home defense.

In a beauty contest with that Mossberg, a Chiappa Rhino and a Hi-Point as finalists, there wouldn't be a winner. At best it would be a three-way tie for Miss Congeniality.

Here are some pics of my HP 40 cal carbine some how a round fired behind a loaded round and left the case sticking out of the barrel, and caused swelling at the other end. Sent back to HP and it was repaired with a new barrel and they sent me an extra mag for the inconvenience. as of today it has been working flawlessly
may have been my fault using reloads

They tend to be the only gun at that price point that actually works, but for $100 more you could buy a new S&W SDVE that is easily twice the gun, and still cheap enough.

I agree, HiPoints are ugly and pretty reliable. But I have seen sin that looked pretty damn fine to me.

I had one fire out of battery and that was enough for me. Hot gasses (I'm a lefty) blown back in my face was all the reality check I needed.

I'm told the mags are the only real weak point in them. They guns are heck for strong and yet the mags are supposed to be a little weak. But I've not owned one.

I sold gobs of them while I was in the business.. had only one ever have a problem, customer sent it back and in 2 weeks had a new one.. try that with S&W (running and ducking!)

And besides.. if it were to quit or even run out of ammo.. it would be easy to beat someone to death with one of those monsters!!

Final opinion... worth the money!
