Which guns have achieved "Cult" status?
Some guns command a following -- and prices -- far in excess of what could reasonably be called their actual worth.
I can think of three:
Winchester 21
Pre 64 Winchester Model 70 .257 Roberts
Registered Magnum
What other guns have achieved cult status?

Well, you had probably be prepared to differentiate between "prices commanded" and "actual worth". It is pretty easy to argue that they represent the same value. If you are speaking about "intrinsic worth", that would depend upon the use to which the gun was to be employed.

Mauser 98k
Luger P-08
Python
Springfield 1903
M1 Garand
GI M1 Carbine
While I appreciate the historical significance of some of the things in that list, they are still overrated and overpriced IMHO.

Ever since the WW2 movies came out in the late 90's, milsurps, especially Lugers, K98s and Garands have gone up in value. Even some Russian and Yugo capture/reworks are over $500+!

Excellent example.
I'd have posted this, had you not beat me to it.
I recall seeing these for 75 bucks hot off the rice freighter.
My friend got one, and I felt he paid 70 too much.
Trigger take up nearly half the length of the rifle, and every foot of it rusty cheese grater smooth, I think the$5 balance might have been negotiable.
After I out shot it with a 629, it was sent on it's way, well modded, for a healthy profit during the first wave of gun bans.

Can't think of any better example of a cult gun than the Colt Python. They are really getting out of hand!
Other very sought after pieces are of course:
Smith 2 1/2" M66 and M19
Colt SAA 4 3/4"
S&W Registered Magnum
WWll (genuine) 1911's with history

H&K MP-5 (a good sub gun)
Winchester M-12 (a little over rated IMHO)
FN Hi-Power (son of the 1911, but never quite as good)
Winchester M-63 (quality semiauto)
Winchester M-61 (quality pump)
Winchester 1894, M-94 (overrated IMHO, Marlin is a better lever)
German Luger (really poor design, great machining work)
YMMY, ................. Big Cholla

Surprised no one mentioned the post war S&W K-32. They are out there, but to get a fair price you have to come across someone that has no clue. Qualifies as cult in my world.

Python
Automag
1911
RM
SAA
Lugers
And a bunch of others that have been known to make grown
men cry.

HK series. P7, M8, M13. This group is definitely diehard and prices just keep going up. For most P7 collectors they have been a very good investment.

Hmmm, this gets me thinking, which guns have achieved cult status without being iconic, and vice versa, which are iconic but lack cult status?

The old rabbit eared double barrel.
The Sig P210.
Colt GI 1911 and the Python and Anaconda close behind.
The Mosin Nagant also seems to have a following.

I understand the question is asked from the point of view of a collector. But I tend to look at "cult" guns as objects of popular culture (for better or worse).
The Glock (no model needed) just ask anyone who listens to Rap, Hip Hop, etc.
The S&W .44 Mag. (again no model need) If you have to ask why I suggest another forum.
The AK-47 Commies, drug dealers, rebels and war lords cannot be all wrong.
The Colt 45 and Winchester 94 (funny how one is a cal and the other a model) "winning the west" has to count for something.

I had a bucket list that a lot of these featured on way back in high school.
However, Glocks weren't on it. The one in my safe--isn't really there. No siree.

I just have to add any of the HK P7 line of pistols. Also a prediction, the Kimber Solo. It got off to a rocky start but Kimber seems to have solved the problems and provided extraordinary service in making things right. Six plus one 9 millimeter rounds in an all metal pistol 5.5 inches long.

You could also ask a substantial majority of LEO's in this country, but I guess that's not a cult following.
I agree with the 10/22 and would add the Nylon 66 and Marlin 39A. The Marlin has been in production since, what, 1891?
I love my Smith revolvers, but I'd have to add the Detective Special/Cobra/Agent line, especially the DS. And the Model 1903.
Winchester 97, especially in riot gun configuration.
Browning Sweet Sixteen.

Original Marlin model 1894 in .32-20 caliber. What a useless gun, but they go for about $3K

Colt Python and Colt Annacondas have to be tops on the list. Good guns, but priced higher than better guns from S&W.
Colt Gold Cups command a premium, but not all of them are great pieces.

I would disagree with most the choices here. Cult status has to be when many who are not gun people are aware of it. And many think they should own one. Mythical status, popularity with little or no basis in fact. I have a very short list.
S&W .44 Mag, M29-2 and earlier, 6.5" barrel, you know why.
Thompson sub machinegun
Winchester Model 70, pre-64 (well deserved reputation)
At one time, I would have put guns as the Colt SAA, Luger, Winchester lever guns, and Model 12s, and the PPK on the list. But I feel their status is waning.
In the future, the Python seems destined, maybe the Glocks, except there are so many of them, the AK47 seems to have supplemented the Thompson as the gun of hoods.
Then among the gun crowd is the cartridge cult, the .44 special. They really make a lot of sense, there's just not many of them.
