Default What do you think of the Arsenal AK SAM7k-03 pistol w Sig brace 4 HD or woods carry?

I was thinking about the glock 20 10mm for woods carry and HD but then I came across this:

SAM7K PISTOL - 7.62, milled receiver

What do you think of the Ak SAM 7-03 with the pistol grip for HD or woods carry?

I would thread the barrel and add a suppressor.

Do you mean flash suppressor or sound suppressor? If the latter, consoder whether using the brace to avoid an SBR tax stamp is worth it when you are just getting a different tax stamp anyway.

As is, muzzle blast would likely be an issue indoors.

In the woods it would seem to be useful mainly against hostile humans. It is not the most effective rifle caliber to begin with, then you probably kose velocity with the shorter barrel. Shrug.

The rifles themselves are quality. They have a milled receiver which will add weight. The barrel is already threaded and has a flash hider on it. Not to be confused with a suppressor which is a NFA item and you'll need a tax stamp IF your state allows.

It's is Arsenal Bulgarian made.

I'm a AK nut but these pistols are gimmicky. You can use the brace to shoulder but you cannot modify it in any way shape or form. You cannot make it longer or insert something inside, where your forearm should be, to give more surface area. If you do you have made an illegal short barreled rife and can face a 10 year prison term. Only legal way to shoulder it is to have it exactly the way it came from the factory.

They go for about a G. Save yourself some money and a little weight and get a Yugoslav PAP AK pistol. It has a stamped receiver but no chrome lining.

When I go camping I carry a AK or a VZ58. But i go for a few days. If you're just going on a walk/hike in the woods for a few hours you'll probably be better off with the Glock

( Scratching my head) Likewise I am trying to get a handle on what you are actually looking to do here.

I actually have a 10mm Glock , and an AK SBR, but I don't really see much overlap. Really two different things. Each one does what it does, which do you want ?

I don't think much of your idea, for the purposes you intend: the AK is way, way down my list when I think of a desirable weapon for hiking or hd.

Of course, if you have your heart set on getting one of these, any excuse to get it is a good one.

As others have remarked, be careful that your proposed mods don't get you jailed!!

I'm not sure if you're being facetious about it being for "woods carry" or if that's what you really mean.

Having spent a good part of my life in the back country, it sounds like we probably have different ideas about what makes up an effective "woods carry" gun. On the other hand, like the nautical people say, "Whatever floats your boat."

Are you enamored of the "pistol" aspect of this weapon because it satisfies the requirements of a permit for concealed carry when you go for a walk in the woods and cannot carry a rifle? Or is it something else?

Good points, I like the fact that it is lighter and shorter than a rifle-easier and quicker to handle. 30 rounds of 7.62 seems much more powerful than 30 rounds of 10 mm and a lot less expensive to feed. Woods gun for me is not for grizley's. I have a few 30 cals so the sound suppressor would not be just for this.

As I understand it you cannot alter the brace or use a vertical pistol grip but you can add a angled pistol grip and use what ever hand rail and accessories you like rds etc.

Thanks for the input

My 300 blk pistol with brace, foreward angled grip, will get here friday. Clean it, put the short 300 can on it( Chaotic from Liberty), reflex sight, light, single point sling and go out and shoot. I will see what it likes better 110/220 and see where the sound level is. Fill a beta mag with 220,one with 110, one 50/50, I believe that it would make a great "woods"gun or a "ccw"/HD. I have no children, the nearest neighbor is 1/4 mile so over penetration done quietly would not be a problem. 223 with a can is still loud!! The 10" barrel on your AK should bleed off a little velocity and make the 123 gr semi quiet for indoor use if needed. I may just try that out on my AK pistol but go with the full size ( 30 cal Freedom from liberty ). Be Safe,

Think of the visual impact it'll have on both the public and on any cops who see it. Not a good idea. And not ballistically very efficient.

Everything is going to depend on what you mean by hiking and where it's at. My camping hikes I carry an AK and a few mags. I'll go for a few days and there are bobcats and black bears in the area. However, there are no "trails" to run into people who might get scared. In fact walking up as I do is kinda insane since you're practically climbing the side of the mountain. It's very steep so no tourists go up.

The AK works for me. The amount of ammo, the type of ammo makes it perfect. I wouldn't want to reload a lever gun if I missed or wasn't effective or both. Accuracy is just fine despite the most common Internet rumors. In the end only you will know if it's appropriate in your area.

Here is where I camp

The walk up

What it looks like

As a HD/ woods carry/ccw I thought this would be a good compromise. Will I only carry one gun??, Maybe if I run out of my house naked!! Locally we have black bear- I shot my first one about 300 yds from the front door, and I know bears, wolves, cougars, coyotes have been much, much closer to the house and to me while in the woods walking or hunting. As for rounds I will start with 110/220 super/sub and work on ~ 150 gr FMJ for paper, and 168/ 175 SMK/Gameking, some 245 hard cast for hunting. I went with the 10" bbl since it would give me a balance weapon with or with out the can. Obviously the 7" would make a smaller overall package, But ( my BELIEF) that I may not get the velocity I want with certain loads or the stabilization with other loads. I may be way off and find that out later, live and learn. For indoor HD, subs with can will be quiet and effective. Before any one suggests that a 220 gr OTM sub would not be a stopper- are you comparing it to ...357 125/ 12ga 00buck I agree, but this is a compromise I have looked at. 2 or 3 fast, accurate 220's from a stable platform with minimal noise, flash and recoil would work best for me in my situation/location. Since it will also be used for "handgun" hunting it is a compromise. I will post photos in the next day or 2. Be Safe,

IMHO, not a bad idea as long as you dont mind carrying the extra weight. I would use a 20 round mag as it will be a bit more handy than the longer 30 rounder. You do not lose too much velocity from the 16 inch barrel. You can use a single point sling and let it ride about where a pistol would be in a holster.

I'd take a G20 with 15+1 180gr hard casts over an AK pistol anytime.

If you need it quickly, you can draw and fire the Glock without any further steps. You have to take the AK off safe since I know you're not crazy enough to carry it on "Fire". Sure, 30+1 154gr JSPs are superior but in that time making it ready you could have fired the Glock 2 or 3 times.

Calling it a "pistol" is merely a legal term. It has rifle weight and almost the size.

I would agree, save some money and by a PAP M92. These are factory built Yugo's by Zastava. The 20rd is definitely more convenient size wise. With the Manticore Night Brake it would be abusive indoors. At best it would make an excellent gate gun, but in all honesty it is a fun gun. With the red dot and a sling it is quite accurate and can be well controlled, but it would truly shine as an SBR - something I intend to do soon.

The SAM pistol is a poor choice for HD, and a ridiculous idea for woods carry. The forearm brace is a new commodity that is being exploited as a legal way around the SBR; I've handled several similarly configured "pistols" in .223/5.56 ... try to shoulder it and get on target quickly ... good luck. Good for a bug out bag perhaps, but very few people are skilled in short barrel firearm handling.

If you want to be a closet commando and get one for an "entry gun" THEN pay the $200 for the suppressor fee, THEN another $1K for the can, it's your bankroll. At that point you're in for ~$2,500. If you want a short AK, look at the N-Pap underfolder for ~ $599.

For HD, you'd be a lot better served with a sound 12 gauge, with a pocketful of money saved.

For woods carry, any large caliber revolver is satisfactory for two- or four-legged North American predators. S&W Mountain Guns, Ruger Hawks, the list is nearly limitless. If that's not enough firepower, then look into a .45-70 lever gun with 16" barrel.

My 2c.

You also "NEED" the light, sights, can, angled foregrip, single point sling attachment, finish it off with a Beta-mag and your ready to R&R. There is no recoil with this in 300 BLK, while you can go from 110-220gr indoors or outside which should resolve most situations 2 or 4 legged. Why? Because it's FUN!! 12 ga, 45-70 marlin are in the safe, I guess I could always carry the 500 S&W for "backup??" Enjoy. Be Safe,
