My favorite military pistol

A favorite pistols in my military collection is the 9mm, 13 round Belgium H.P. (German military marked). A seventy five year old pistol favored by most collectors. The holsters are correct H.P. holsters. The one in the center is a G.I. put together holster made for either a P38 or 1911 AI? Notice the(WWI) German Imperial eagle added decoration by the G.I.. Kind a neat. MY favorite is the tangent sight H.P..

I especially like the tangent sight model. bought one at a yard sale in NE back in the late 80s. the sights were longer range than I was. lee

Great Collection

I believe that when all was said and done, 68 nations had adopted the HP as their service pistol. I own a commercial HP and the pistol handles extremely well except for that occasional hammer-bite a suffer.

I had a tangent sighted HP once. I squared the rear notch and replaced the front sight with one from a Mauser rifle that I reshaped to a slight ramp.

It shot very good and even fed hollow points with ease.

Apart from its caliber, the HP is a great pistol. Unfortunately, 9mm ball is not a particularly good "stopper," so the 1911 wins the ammo war. The HP has a better grip, however. Great examples of a classic pistol. Good show!

It looks to me as if it could be a German Eagle the way it was depicted in WWI heraldry and even in pre-WWI years. The crown with ribbons flowing from it is held above the Eagle's head, rather than sitting on it. This was an elaborate depiction of the Eagle, but then Germany changed the design to a more "streamlined" design, almost an art deco design in later years, to symbolize the more modern Germany, and the use of crowns in the symbol pretty much disappeared.

The Polish Eagle is almost always depicted with the crown on the Eagle's head, not held above it.
