Better Shootin' w/ Other Brands
Anyone else discover that despite loving the elegant lines, quality construction, and overall sweetness of classic S&W revolvers that you simply shoot another brand or style revolver better? We spent a few hours at the range yesterday with the following guns: M28, Security Six, CZ P01, Ruger Blackhawk. Out of all of them I shot the one that looks the best and is the quintessential revolver, the 28, the worst. The SA Ruger is new to me and it was what I shot the best. 30 carbine was like a laser for me. The 28 has magnas on it so that may be part of the problem but the SS has small grips like the magnas and I consistently was grouping better with it than the smith. I know for sure more testing is needed but I'm just curious if some of us are meant to shoot something other than what we love.

Nope. I have owned several Ruger single actions and still have one. For me they are tremendous for "field" shooting where rests, prone and sitting shots are possible. However, standing on my hind legs, I have always shot Smiths better. Only had one Ruger double action, a super redhawk, and it was to big to shoot offhand.
I love Colt Pythons and have owned three. Ultimately, each was traded off for the simple reason that I shot better with Smiths.
The only handgun I ever found comparable was a Colt Gold Cup.
After a lot of deliberation I concluded that for me it is a lock time issue. My shooting technique is so suspect that I can't not wobble after the trigger has broken. The less time I have to follow through the better results I get. It SEEMS to me that Smiths have quicker lock times. I'd love to see some data on that.

How well do you shoot the Smiths when you're standing on all four legs?
Sorry...I just couldn't stop myself from typing that.

I have been playing in an informal 3-gun league and may have to face the fact that I can shoot my lady friends Glock 19 better than my 5906. It pains me to say it, but the holes in the paper don't lie.
Before I turn to the darkside, though, I did practice the pistol-potionwith my BHP Practical Friday afternoon! I think that'll keep me "in steel" for the time being.

I shoot S&W revolvers as well or better than any other revolver brands I've tried.
Single action revolvers of any brand are way down my list: got rid of all mine in favor of double action revolvers: all are better shooters for me than single actions.
When it comes to pistols, S&W are way down the list behind Colt 1911's (for center fire pistols ) and Colt Woodsman or a variety of High Standard 22's in rim fire , although it's a closer call for rim fires.
Just my opinion, of course.

I'm not sure there's a valid comparison here. You're talking about shooting different calibers, and I get the idea you're talking about different barrel lengths as well. Different calibers, different velocities, different loads with different recoil shot from pistols and revolvers...all having differently shaped frames and grip frames. And don't forget what's probably a different sight radius/sight picture on each gun.
Granted, most people shoot some guns better than others, but I think there would have to be at least some caliber similarity in order for this to really be a good discussion.
Just my opinion, mind you.

I have personal preferences but have not noticed a great difference in between the accuracy of the different brands, as long as the guns are comparable.

I had a S&W in .32-20 with a 5" barrel. I also had a Colt Official Police set up the same way. I saw the sights better and hit much better with the Colt.

All true to some degree. The rugers security six were 38/357 as was the smith. 4" and 6". The Blackhawk was 7.5" .30 carbine. Recoil was about the same for all.

I shoot the .38 K frame better than any other brand of DA revolver....but I'm finding myself shooting the .357 Ruger LCR better than my J frames in .38sp...at least as of late.

Sometimes a gun just fits better, be it the grips, balance, sight radius or trigger reach.
I am due to go shooting tomorrow with an eclectic group of foreign made guns, a Steyr GB, a Star Firestar (9mm) and a Feg Walther PP clone. Results should be interesting given the different sizes, actions and even caliber of these three.

I shoot S&W N-Frames pretty well. I've tried Colts, Rugers, etc., and like all to a degree, but S&W just fits better.

I've owned Ruger Blackhawks in 357 and 45, both with 4 5/8" barrels,
no longer do, and my groups with 4" 38, 357 and 45 acp are much
better with S&Ws than the Rugers. The reverse is true with the
44 mag. My S&Ws are 4" and I have Rugers in 4 5/8" and 7 1/2" & they
shoot smaller groups for me. All shooting for group size is done from
a rest. Ruger seemed to get it right from the get-go with the 44 mag
as the old three screw Super Blackhawks are well known for accuracy.
Mine is very accurate and all I have seen in the hands of friends have
shown great accuracy.
