Smile Honey I shrunk the 1911

Here is what Browning should have built instead of the plastic fantastic 380. A Llama 380 all steel fits the hand great handles Critical Duty ammo with breeze. New, Improved from 25 years ago.

I wanted one of those sooo baad when I was in high school. Of course I couldn't purchase one.

By the time I could, I had other priorities and expenses.

Haven't seen one anywhere for years.

I was 14 years old and had a Llama like yours in .22 rf, put a million rounds thru it, was not very accurate at all but I did not care!

Colt made one. Govt. Model 380. First handgun I ever bought.
Other than the grip safety it looks pretty much just like a 2/3 scale 1911...

Kicker is it was only $155.00. Banana was about 25 cents, but they don't last long!

I never see those Llama small frames anymore, I'd love to find one in .22 or .32 especially. We have lots of bananas, need more guns.

Colt also made a 7/8 scale version of the 1911 chambered for the 9X21mm cartridge, marketed heavily in Europe pre-WW2. No one was interested so that model never reached the marketplace. American Rifleman had an extensive article on it years ago.

Both Llama and Star borrowed heavily from J.M. Browning's design and Colt's reputation, producing hundreds of thousands of knock-offs from the 1940's through the 1980's. Most were good and serviceable pieces.

Okay, I PROMISE to edit this post with a cool picture after I come back home later......

"Government .380s" are PEACHY!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a Llama 1911 .45 that wasn't up to par in many ways but I always wanted one in .380. Almost had one, too. But, well, a Star Model S got there.....picture coming, I promise.

Off hand 20 yards about 4 inch spread, honestly with concentration I think I can half that. that's with critical duty ammo, recoil like a lite22mag. very nice and I haven't done any of the 1911 mods like squeezing the frame and fitting the bushing, looks like all the usual tricks can be applied and should result in a great shooter.

I have a .380 just like it, picked it up at a gun show several years ago! If I remember correctly I only paid about $150. for it and it was in fantastic shape!
I forgot to add its a great handgun!

Default Air Force LLama 380

The one I have was supposedly manufactured for the Air Force of Ecuador - at least thats what the sales pitch was that came with the gun. There was a guy at local gun shows that had a stack of these, new in the box, for the better part of a year. He also had a supply of spare mags. If I recall correctly the pistol with one mag was less than $200 but the spare magazines were pricey.

The pistol shoots great with factory ball, HP and my cast bullet reloads.

P.S. Sorry, no fruits or vegetables available to use as a prop rod in pics.

I've got one of the older guns in 22 LR that's marked "LLama Especial"
on the slide. I bought it used at a LGS in 1973. The older guns were
better finished with a more blued look rather than the black finish
that later guns have. The grips are checkered walnut rather than the
plastic with "thumb rest." I used to shoot it a lot but not so much
anymore. It is very reliable. A friend had one in .380 which makes for
a great compact carry piece. I haven't seen one of the old small frame
LLamas for sale anywhere in a long time.

I love 'em. At one time I had about 5 or 6 different 380s. The very latest ones were straight blowback and were nowhere near as nice as the earlier ones. I even had one with an aluminum frame. It began to peen after some shooting so I got rid of it. I'm down to two now, and shoot both; the plain one more than the gaudy one.
