Question AMD 65 rail--just a few more parts now!!

I have an AMD 65 and am looking to change the front grip to a rail system of some sort. S&W people tend not to be into "junk" by definition, so the question is here instead of other forums. I'm looking for ideas for front grip replacement and eventually adding a dot sight (Primary Arms Micro on an American Defense lever lock base) to the rail. I looked at a Mission First Tactical rail and am not sure I want to go with polymer. I'd like to see what you have and why you chose it. Thanks in advance.

Default New rail system for AMD 65

I ended up with a nice set-up on the cheap. It is a UTG465 rail system. There are others and more expensive, but I believe this will serve me fine. I'm happy with the looks other than the pistol grip. I'm going with a Magpul pistol grip (FDE) and a Magpul AFG (FDE) for the forend. Once the dot and base are on, I'll consider it finished. Before and after.........

Thumbs up $300 and it is done!!

Got a few more parts in and am VERY happy with it. I also added a Buffer Technologies buffer to save a bit if wear. I need the optics and a magwell and all is good.

Default

I used to have 150 AMD 65s and about 750,000 rounds of ammo.

Of course, I was the training supervisor of an Afghan police training center at the time.

Like most AK47s, they were very reliable, if not as accurate as our M4s. We had several of those wire buttstocks break.

An Afghani can break an anvil if you give him half a chance.
