I have this Rossi in 44 Special. The original grips are a lot larger than I prefer.

Does anyone know for sure what other Rossi/ Taurus model grips will fit this?

I find various forums with various conflicting info but I don't need one more set of grips to go in my Big Box-o-Grips that don't fit anything I own.

Nill makes grips for Rossi revolvers that are excellent, which unfortunately is also reflected in the price of $166.

I don't own a Rossi or Taurus, but have you tried other maker's grips/stocks to see if they fit? I understand other companies make revolvers ;).

Simmer Down:

I own a Rossi Model 720 - the "Covert" model with bobbed hammer, fixed sights and true DAO. I bought it used about 7 years ago, and it came with a set of Pachmayr rubber grips. It is difficult to impossible to find either factory or after market grips for this gun. The Pachmayrs are the only ones I've seen with any frequency, and they have been getting harder to find. I have seen another Model 720 wearing a set of Hogue rubber grips designed for a J-frame S&W revolver. When I emailed the owner to ask for details, he told me he had purchased the piece used, with the Hogue grips installed. He was kind enough to remove the grips and take and send me photos of the grip frame. It looks like the previous owner modified (shortened) the grip pin, and then manhandled the stirrup over the shortened grip pin to make the grip fit. I haven't gotten around to trying that modification yet as the Pachmayrs do a pretty good job for me. By the way, I would not recommend dry-firing the piece as I'm to understand that doing so will lead to parts breakage - primarily the firing pin and hammer.

Best of luck,

Dave

I know HOW to find out...

I know HOW to find out...

I ended up with a Savage 30 Series B shotgun barrel in a deal.
Wondered about the "Series B" and would it fit others.

Went to Numrich arms on the net - Firearm Parts & Accessories | Military Surplus | Numrich Gun Parts

Searched barrels for the different series. Discovered that Series A, B, C, and D all had barrels with the SAME part numbers.

It is worth giving this method a try. Good Luck.

Bekart- I tried all sorts of cross references have only seen the one grip. If this is the biggest issue for me at this moment I'm doing OK.

I mentioned this in another thread. I have a 720 Covert and like it very much but not the big rubber stocks. I read somewhere that square butt stocks made for the Rossi 68/88 will fit. I ordered a set of Barami Hip Grips for the Rossi small frame...Model 89 D...and they fit pretty well with some areas the have slight gaps...I added a T-Grip made for S&W J Frame. Today, I added a piece of bicycle inner tube as a sleeve over all of it. Its perfect for my needs. Its smaller and slimmer than in the grip and the Hip Grip allows the gun to ride lower with less bulk and conceals it very well. I have never been a fan of "Mexican carry" but the Hip Grip with a good, snug belt is very secure and comfortable. This set up with five Hornady Critical Defense rounds residing in the chambers makes an excellent concealed carry revolver...A true "Bulldog" revolver.

This question could be better answered on the Taurus forum, they have a Rossi subforum there.

I think that your revolver has the large frame that the model 27/43/483/720/761/763/833/853/933/971 and 986 have in common. They all use the same grips.

I have thine 720 DAO also. I'd love to find some decent wood for it.
...and widen the rear sight notch.

gaucho1- I bet you'll like it. Mine has the nicest, most even trigger pull of any revolver I've had. I like SA for target shooting but the DA on mine is super nice.

Found Some

These work.

Just a hair small, but definitely for the 720 grip frame.

I was surprised at how small they are.

Feels good in my hand.

2 years later I found some. I wasn't really looking that hard.

SunCrafts.com
They need a little bit of final finishing but for the price I'm pleased with them.

That website won't load at my house. I suspect it wants to do things on my computer I do not permit.
I hope it's not riddled with worms. I had trouble pulling it up and just google SunCraft grips and got there.
