Browning Hi Power
It has been a long while since I last bought a bottom feeder, but couldn't pass on this minty '69(c-serial) BHP. A friend offered it up to me, who has other wants on his list. He said his FEG is good enough anyway. I'm excited to have it. Here are some quick pics. No more this year now, I'm gonna try and be done!

It's a great gun except for the mag safety. Don't know it can be disabled.

One of my all-time favorites, and IMO, JMB's best pistol design. Many current production guns are based on it. The trigger is not the best, but with practice, it's OK. They say removing the magazine disconnect improves the trigger, but I like to keep my guns original and learn to use them as they are. I once owned Model 59, which many consider the first " wonder nine". Even though the HP is SAO, I prefer it over the Smith.. Too bad it never came in 45acp, it would have been perfect. You have a really nice one there. Enjoy it.

Now that's sharp! Is that the original Browning case with it? I'm envious. I'm still looking for a really nice (affordable) C- or T-series HP. I know it's out there somewhere, just waiting for me.

Beautiful gun. I love those HPs.
First day of the year a gun collector says " No more this year now, I'm gonna try and be done". Yeah right.
I almost fell out of my chair at that one.

Absolutely can be done and is very common to improve trigger pull as well as being able to fire the gun with the mag removed. I highly recommend this modification!

I nearly bought one with the gold trigger a few months back but the mag safety was such a pain because the HP cannot be reassembled if the mag is inserted or not, can't remember which.

I do believe it is the original Browning case/pouch. It was a nice suprise to see it come with that too.

I have had good luck with replacing the hammer spring, as long as the trigger is crisp to begin with. Putting the 28 lb spring in, over the factory 32 lb one makes a big difference. Have always wanted to have a Cylinder and Slide hammer and sear setup installed, plus a wide, mag safety-less trigger. Someday. Congrats on your beautiful HP.

In your buddy's shoes, I'da kept the HP and moved the FEG (and I like my FEG). Nice example.

I vividly remember when unspeakable tragedy struck two families in my neighborhood back in 1991.
Each of the two families had a teenage boy. The two boys were best friends. One weekend the boys were staying at one of their homes and had other friends there. The father had a Ruger MkII .22 auto in the home, and it was loaded. The boys were just playing around. They knew little or nothing about the pistol. One of them picked up the Ruger, took out its magazine, pointed it at his friend; and thinking it was unloaded, he jokingly pulled the trigger. The shot between the eyes killed his friend instantly. The shooter was so distraught he put the magazine back in the pistol, racked the bolt, and put a bullet in his own head.
Had that Ruger been designed with a magazine safety there would be two fine young men still with us.
No, I would never disable any safety device on any firearm.
Just my $0.02 worth. YMMV. Sorry to put a damper on this thread. That's one fine Browning HP. I love it. Keep it as it is. I have a nice "T" model from 1967, and it is just fine with the magazine safety in it.

My absolute favorite 9mm pistol. Congratulations on a nice find.
I've never really understood all the whining about the mag safety. My Hi-Power still has it and shoots just fine.
I feel the same way about the firing pin safety in Series 80 Colts. Both are much over discussed non-problems.

If only it had the 1911s manual safety! I like the positive "click" with the Colt. I carried my Hi-Power for a few months IWB, but twice I found the safety disengaged. I'm pretty much in the TDA camp now for carry, but I still take the Browning out for fun. If it was strictly open carry, that's probably the pistol I shoot the best. That, and the Smith 39, feel the best in my hand.

As you can tell there are quite a few of us who share that fondness for the BHP. One of the great handguns of all time.

The BHP is one of the best--congrats on a great purchase!
Insofar as the "No more this year..." logic; well, I don't buy it. The year has just begun.

Thanks to everyone for their input and comments. I've read and heard about the trigger complaints, but will keep and enjoy it as is, unaltered.

I have three P-35s. Love 'em, carry 'em. One is close to me now - a T series tangent sight model. Also have a Silver Chrome with adjustable sights and a fixed sight MK II. To me, best-looking semiauto pistol ever and second only to the S&W M-39 in feel in the hand. Congrats on your acquisition. I predict you will come to love it.

The HP is my favorite semi auto and I have two; a standard fixed
sight blue model that I bought new in 1977 and a MKIII with black
plastic grips that I bought used in new condition. I don't like magazine
safeties so I removed them from both guns. No one handles my guns
but me so I'm not worried about the lack of a mag safety. Many other
autos come without one anyway.

Wait, let me look in the safe...
Okay, mine is there. Thought you grabbed it.
But mine is a C76
Ya see 76 is an important number here in Philadelphia!

It's amazing that a gun designed and built that long ago still feels better in the hand that any other 9mm I've ever handled. Congrats on an exceptional example of an exceptional firearm.

With this pistol, also came several magazines. After a little looking, I believe these two are earlier then the gun itself, WW2 vintage? I tried to show the inspection stamp? on one of them.

That inspection stamp is a Nazi-era German Waffenamt stamp. That magazine is Nazi production in WW II.

First shot the BHP (an Inglis) 53 years ago! Some years back I picked up an Israeli surplus Mk III. Not only was the price ridiculously low, but other than dings and nicks in the enameled finish it was mechanically perfect with an extremely low round count. Obviously a supervisor's gun...
The trigger isn't great, but it's quite usable. Changed the small safety to a C&S, and put on a set of Spegel delrins. The pistol is reliable (with a capital R)with my handloads and of course that heavy mainspring will set them all off.
I removed the mag safety so the pistol has the same manual of arms as the 1911. It didn't improve the pull much, but it sure simplified my life. I have a Ruger Mk. III .22, and by summer I will have removed that mag safety as well. The less I have to fool with the pistol in normal handling the fewer things I can do wrong.
Magazine safeties may gratify corporate lawyers and police administrators, but proper instruction and training make them redundant; they're as likely to facilitate an ND as to prevent one.

Very nice BHP !
Purchased this Belgian .40 S&W a few years back mostly for its high luster blue finish and bizarre safety system ,
The gun is made safe by manually pushing the hammer down which raises the safety lever,
When the safety lever is lowered the hammer pops back up to SA mode.....very weird but kinda unique.
