I still don't think it's worth as much as your colt. Don't do it

That would be worth doing a little research on.I guess my thinking is that the diamondback is a well known collectable which makes it a fairly liquid asset if you ever need the cash. The 94/17 would take time and patience to cash out of.

I WOULDN'T
The diamondback is a vintage/ known/valued item & NO more are gonna be made. MIGHT new Winchester produce more mims/plastic 9417's? How much $ for the 9417? If you REALLY want the 9417, save the $, or sell something else. Personally I'd rather have a 9422 or better yet a 9422M XTR, that MIGHT be worth the trade, but I'd hate to trade something VERY difficult to replace if you have remorse afterwards.

It sounds like someone has a bad case of new gun fever . Take three deep breaths and exhale slowly between each one...
How much did you pay for your Diamondback? If you bought it new off a dealer's shelf a trade would be easier to justify than if you just got it for a top of the market price last month. Do you really like and use it regularly?
Next, as arjay suggested, do your research. 30 seconds on the popular (green and yellow) gun auction site shows 65 listings for the 9417, some relists, in the last 90 days. Just as an incentive for you to do your homework a very nice one went for $860; you'll have to see for how much the others went yourself.
Which one will be worth more in the long run? Perhaps your crystal ball has fresh batteries and works better than mine, but if I had to guess a really nice out-of-production Colt DA revolver in .22 LR will do better than a (perhaps to be reintroduced, you can never predict) Winchester lever action in a less popular caliber. This may just be my revolver bias showing, however.
Good luck in your decision.

That depends on how big the briefcase of cash is that the Winchester guy is adding to the deal
You already know that the Colt is a collectible and appreciating nicely in value each year.
Right now the Winchester is just a hard to find unusual variation of the 94. You want to gamble that it might become collectible in the future and if it does become collectible you want to figure out if it will be worth more than the Colt in 30+ years
If you have the itch for a 9717 and you do not have the cash, make a Lay-A-Way deal for one so that you can keep both firearms
The only secret to having a great life long collection of firearms is not selling prime pieces that you already own.

I don't know what the Winchester is worth, but the Diamondback would bring over $1000. Do the research.

.22 Diamondback is worth considerably more and will increase in value more than the Winchester. (My opinion only)

Well yeah he's only interested in the Diamondback! Because he knows how one sided that trade is especially because of the great condition it is in. Just my opinion! The Winchester is newer production, would you shoot the 17 HMR much? I wouldn't make the trade based on value so much as wanting a 17 for hunting. But would still want cash in addition!

So what? That doesn't make it the better gamble.(one could say that only 500 were made,as there was limited demand) Keep the Diamondback-don't try to over analyze the situation.A lesser value gun isn't going to magically outpace the Colt.
Go ahead and shoot the Colt.Someone else already did,why shouldn't you? If you're careful with it,how is that going to effect the value?Do you expect to drop it or slide it over a rough bench? I think not. I have guns that make the range visit every time that I go-they still look like new.

The self-flagellation will commence immediately upon the departure of your Diamondback and continue through eternity should you stray from the path.

Keep the Snake
Diamond Back is like a savings bond. New "Winchesters" are like house trailers. If you make this deal, shoot yourself in foot with Diamond Back,
so you will have something to remember it by.
